My Sister is having an Operation.

Nothing serious, Just her Hips are being pulled slightly further out, as they cause both of her feet to angle towards each other (not by alot though), she's pretty young (12), but she has to get it done sooner rather than later, as it'll get worse over time.

After the operation, she'll be wheelchair bound for a long time, and if healing does not heal fast, can go from 6-12 weeks. Its going to be painful for her, and even though she's a pain in the ass, its gonna be hard seeing her in pain.

Just posting this to see if anyone else has been or is in a situation similar to this.

 

Just stay by her side, talk to her, and just listen to her requests, such as doing her chores, getting her a glass of water, etc. Just don't make it too hard on her.

 

During the time of the operation, I'll be busy with Sixth Form, I'd like to stay home and help out..My dad is a manager on an oil rig, and is away for extensive periods of time, and My Mum won't be able to cope as I have younger brothers and sisters, but I just cant.

 

Yea try to comfort her, try not to put her aside just cuz of the wheelchair and spend lots of time with her. Show u really care

 

I had a worse One On my left leg It was bent inwards On the lower Limb Was in wheelchair for about a year and pins In my leg dw she will be fine and She should be able to do some stuff dor herself after a while For example I Could play football with a metal cage on my leg dw no sweat mate .

 

I had a tibial eminence fracture in my leg (Basically tore off my ACL but not fully.) I had to have surgery and was in a wheel chair then crutches and physical therapy for about 6 months. It gets extremely boring not being able to do anything so try to keep her entertained. Also comfort her through the hole thing. I suggest maybe read her some of these things that other people have said. It can be very emotional going through this so try to put yourself in her shoes and relate to her as much as you can. Try to cheer her up before the surgery with a gift or something depending how young she is a doll might work or a barbie which can be bought fairly easily but may be embarrassing buying but you have to ask yourself is your dignity more important than your sister?

 

I know exactly what your feeling. Even though this person can piss you the fuck off sometimes you still love them and care for them.

 

Was it successful?

 

My brother had to do this operation too. Except, the dumbass doctors fucked something up, and now he's crippled for life. I remember that I used to be mean to him, and now, God punished me for what I did to him. Just remember, she looks to you for help. She's YOUR little sister. Take care of her man.

 

I have honestly never heard of anything like this. I'm very sorry to hear and I wish her all the best.

 

Dude..that just gave me shivers. Wow. I cannot express my sorrow. If that happened to me I think i'd suicide..Life isn't fair but come on. That's just...

But thanks for all the comments guys, I have been pretty nice to her recently, making sure that she's comfortable about having an operation.

 

Try to be the best brother you can for her. Maybe after this, she won't be as so much a pain in the ass.

Don't treat her differently unless you were a douche before..
Just be normal about her don't make her feel awkward..

 

I feel you man..my little cousin just has some serious surgery a couple weeks ago and had to get staples in her head :/

Brother's got a hip condition in which his hips are slowly degrading. He was 12 or 13 when we learned about it. And you're right seeing them in pain sucks. What you have to do is not let it aggravate you. I had an altercation with my brother at one point because he was on crutches, didn't want to go to school(what 13 year old does) and blurted out that he was overdoing it and exaggerating the pain.

Regrets can be a pain in the ass. Don't let it happen to you.

 

Just try to comfort her, but don't act like she is a cripple. I have been on crutches after a sports injury at about the same age, and when you are that young, being teased about your crutches is really a strong blow. Don't make fun of her, but don't cuddle her that you treat her any differently from a normal person.

If it is hard for you, just remind yourself that it was a necessary operation and she will be all better within the next three months.

She' consulted the doctor the other day, and my mum told my dad (not together anymore), and he doesn't like the idea.. mainly because My aunty had one small operation on her knee which causes more problems than it solved and because of this has been on the op table over 9 times now. He thinks that its a small problem that she can live with, yet the Doctor says it needs to be fixed now, while she's young and its easier to recover, than her being older and it getting worse..
