Jagex...

Not really a suggestion more of a question... idc if this is wrong section please dont come on here and say wrong section noob and then like lock it. I was wondering why Jagex can't shut this site down? I mean has anyone looked at Rsbot.org? I am not advertising Rsbot.org but I tried to go on it and this is what showed up.

Jagex only swiped rsbots domain for trademark infringement. They moved to a new domain (powerbot.org).

Sythe isn't breaking any trademark or copyright laws (that I know of) so Jagex can't do anything.

 

Im thinking because its a forum that only has a small section to rsbot and rs. Plus the domain bullied rsbot.org, and FaGeX cant do that to us lololol. Blizzard on the other hand? Probabllyyyyyy

Sythe = Market/Fun Forum =) = Runescape can blow some balls.

 

Well sythe does do a fair bit of botting, item, gold, and account selling, which is agaisnt Fagex's twatty rules

 

RsBot only got shut down because Jagex claimed that they copyrighted "Rs".

The admins didn't put up a fight and so lost the domain.

 

Jagex copyrighted 'rs' and by having it, rsbot was breaking the law. But here at Sythe, we break no real life law, only Jagex's ToS so they can go fuck themselves.

 

Sythe cannot get shut down by jagex as we are not breaking any copyright laws such as RSbot did with the RS in it. Here at Sythe we also are not doing anything illegal just breaking the rules of Runescape such as account trading, goldfarming, etc.

 

This, it's just the domain nothing else really.

 

Wow they seriously copyrighted 2 letters just so that they could take the top botting website down? Wouldn't they just figure that they would move the forum to another domain? Well they moved it to http://powerbot.org/. Jagex is getting worse and worse about protecting their games. First the trade limit and now this. In every game people are going to bot and sell in game items, but when you create an MMO and put that against the rules, you have to know that people are going to do it anyway. But, Jagex freaks out about every little thing and has to try to block everything. Next thing you know is that the company will be blocking item drops from PKing trying to stop people from transfering items.

 

It was always trademarked, it depends on the context the letters are used in. With rsbot, it was used as runescape bot.

A few years back, rsunlocked was taken for the same reasons.

 

Rsbot, as said before, broke laws.
Sythe, cream there ToS.

Jagex Ltd does NOT own the trademark to the letters "RS". You may search the UK, US, and Canadian Trademark databases without finding a single "RS" image or name trademark belonging to Jagex Ltd.
"RS" is just a common abbrevation for their game "RuneScape". However, it is a common abbreviation for "Rainbow Six", "Red Steel", "RapidShare", "Radio Shack", "Rogue Spear", "Republika Sprska", and "Rocket Software". In fact, RS.com is owned by Rocket Software. By the panelist's reasoning, Jagex Ltd has a right to own their domain name. I could see if the name of our website was "Runescapebot.com" that Jagex Ltd would have right to ownership; but they do not.

I'm no expert on domain law, but it has to do with the context that "rs" is being used in. If rsbot was a site that had rapidshare bots, then there is no way Jagex could have grabbed that domain. However, they are making money off Jagex's brand ("rs") because it is being used in the runescape context (reflected in the content on the website), with advertisements (and other ways) that is bringing in a lot of money for them.

I must have been mistaken about "rs" being trademarked, but I remember seeing it in official documents somewhere before.

 

What about sites like rsbots or rsbot.com?

 

Thanks for stealing the text directly from my post on Powerbot, love. And as per the above post, yes, context does mean something, but if Paris would've come out of the woodworks and replied with something like that, they could've delayed it or even stopped it. Adlex Solicitors (who has Adam Taylor on the WIPO Domain Arbitration Panel; conflict of interest much?) uses somewhat "dirty tricks" like these to get things done a lot. But it's as such in the business world.

And yes, any site that uses RS in it that might be representative of RuneScape could be considered a target for Jagex.
