    A Theory of Life

A Theory of Life by Stephen Bridson.

I am an extremist; black or white: there is no grey area. Life, by definition, can be defined as a period of existence with reference to a specific thing. Therefore, if someone can be proved to exist, it has life. This is a bold statement: Music exists; Ideas exist; Love exists. If this is true, the same could be assumed of time. The proof can be observed by watching the hands of a clock rotate. This would be to say time has life. So, if we stick to our definition of life, time is limited: it will, one day, no longer exist. Since there is a limit on time, forever does not exist. This presents us with the question: What is the purpose of life? Many believe the purpose of life is to contribute to the next generation. If forever doesn't exist and one day time, and thus life, will come to an end, life is purposeless. Life, by reason, does not exist. I am an extremist; black or white: I do not see either.

But proving anything exists, in itself is a paradox. Proving something like an idea, is nearly impossible. You can not prove that time has a limit, for all any of us currently know, theres no end to time.

Prove anything exists, anything at all.

If you are going on the soul basis of saying that since one cannot prove something exists, than it does not exist because it is impossible to prove that anything exists, you have validated my argument. Life does not exists, and thus has no purpose.

This is, most certainly, food for thought.

Time is limited? I don't know what you mean by that, if you watch the same clock, it just repeats every single day, it keeps going.. Thus, never running out. And to the "forever doesn't exist" comment: like I said before, time never runs out, days, months, years, time over all will keep on going, it will never stop whether we're dead or alive, or even if Earth blows up. Also, I believe your purpose in life is to live it how you want it, it's up to you to make your own future.

The clock keeps going until it runs out of batteries.

Time could essentially run out of batteries, but nobody knows that. None of us will live long enough to prove, or disprove it.

    P.S Sinix, You're awesome, lol.

Reread it again. I explained how time is limited. And like I said, once you understand why I believe time is limited, you'll understand why forever does not exist.

    1. I failed at getting acknowledged lol.
    2. I believe that time IS limited, however theres no way of knowing for sure.
Im the type of person , who if I think about something enough, I still won't believe that something with "proof" exists. I don't even know If for sure I exist. But I know Time & Life are "true."

"I think, therefore I am." - Rene Descartes

The only think that can possibly exist is yourself.
Now if you can get your mind into a place where you believe that you don't exist: anything is possible.

Time isn't in the same category as Living organisms... You said "Life, by definition, can be defined as a period of existence with reference to a specific thing" Time itself is the "period of existence" it isn't the specific thing you're talking about... If you're referring to the clock, then yes, it will eventually run out of batteries and time will stop (for the clock, not the world)

The problem with your theory is your definition of life as a period of existence with regard to any specific thing. Sure, music exists, ideas exist, my shoe exists, my house exists, my pencil exists, etc. But none of these things have "life", not in the sense we mean when we consider the meaning of life.

    Also, you claim that
Even by your own reasoning, this just simply isn't true. If I were to accept everything you've said up until then (which I don't), it would be reasonable to conclude that one day life will not exist. You could even argue that because of this life is purposeless. But you have absolutely no logical basis to say that "life, by reason, does not exist".

Everything's an illusion. Life is just imaginary.

Glad you supported that with such a well thought out argument.

    Let me further explain.

A pencil has life. Life is a period of existence. Eventually, the atoms that make up the pencil will seperate and the pencil will be gone.

If life is/has no purpose, then it has no use.
If it has no use, its definition is but a blank sentence.
To be blank is to be nothing.
To be nothing is to not exist.

What's to say that everything you imagine is not real.
What's to say that life is indeed an illusion, but your imagination is real?
    Think about it.

You have presented no logical bridge between an object having no use and that object not existing. To say "if it has no use, its definition is but a blank sentence" and to extrapolate from this that the object does not exist is not a logically reasoned argument.

Explaining your lact of ability to follow my reason is not a valid argument.

    Try again.

I don't lack the ability to follow your reasoning, your reasoning is simply fallacious.

Why is this statement true? Just because you can claim it does not make it a logical statement.

edit: well since you got banned I guess I don't get a reponse, lol.
