    Japanese Learners?

Anyone on Sythe currently learning the Japanese language? If so, explain why / what made you start learning it.

If you are interested in learning it, why are you interested?

I was going to learn two years ago, but changed my mind and instead learned Mandarin, but didn't get very far so I dropped that. The only way that learning Japanese would benefit me would be for business, like communications and translation for Cantonese to Japanese or Japanese to Cantonese. Because some of the Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China people go to Japan and want someone to translate. I also forgot what I learned in Mandarin, but oh well.

I don't think I would need it, it's not like I'm going to go to Japan anyways. There's another reason why I would, the reason is to watch Case Closed, since they stopped dubbing it in English after episode 130, but it's a big waste of time and effort to learn Japanese just to watch one show. I also never liked any other Anime shows, just only Case Closed with Detective Conan.

Who said you'd be learning it for anime. Why not just learn it for fun?

HARD WORK IS NOT FUN!!! I have to learn how to write, I have to learn how to speak. I remember I used to be in a Chinese school, and all they told us to do is to learn each single Chinese Character, they didn't teach me or the class the alphabet system or the pattern to making a Chinese Character, they told us to write it in a certain order though, but never ever did they tell us how write a word in a pattern or alphabet style.

My mother told me back then when she was in Guangzhou China, most of the homework or work in school was to write and write and write Chinese characters, and my mother tells me they didn't learn an alphabet system either. So if they were to write Chinese characters, they wouldn't do an alphabet style system, but they would have to remember that whole character. I'm not sure if education in China has changed now, but I once saw in a Hong Kong movie that one guy had trouble spelling a character, and he asked someone in the room, and someone in the room told him how to spell it, and the guy successfully spelled the word.

Although, my friend he knows a lot of things about the languages in Asia, he's fluent in Vietnamese, knows a lot of Japanese, knows some Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), I've seen him use Korean Characters once, and a few other languages. He told me that there's a pattern to Chinese Characters, but he told me it was easy to figure out, so if I couldn't figure out the Chinese characters, I don't think I would be able to learn Japanese very well.

Anyways, maybe when you're done learning Japanese and you're fluent at it, you can try out Cantonese, I'm sure you'll have some trouble with the pronounciations and tones with that language.
