    Something is wrong with me.

Okay so I was eating dinner with my parents at a chinese restaurant and this woman walks in. She's deaf and she's asking for donations for food and what not. Usually, I just glance at these people and look away. But today, when that woman came around, I started weeping uncontrollably as I reached for my wallet. I must've donated at least a hundred bucks.

If you guys know me well, you'd know I wouldn't ever feel like this. Do any of you feel this way when you see someone who is handicapped, asking for donations?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. I didn't know where else to post this.

    Something is wrong with me.

I always feel a little guilty when people ask for donations. I gave half my subway to a homeless guy in my city, but that's the most I've ever donated. I try not to give them any money. The majority of homeless people here would spend money on drugs and alcohol.

Well here you can't buy drugs so I knew the woman wasn't going to blow it :(. If I see normal people asking for donations, I don't give them anything because I know that they're being exploited by a sindicate.

But when these people are handicapped, it's a different thing entirely. Thanks for sharing Verts :)

How is it different? The handicapped are more likely to be exploited by a sindicate then a normal person.

Probably. We can never really tell, can we? But the handicapped person can't work for himself/herself. At least you know the normal people can work, but they're lazy, which is why I wouldn't give them a dime.

What's to say these normal people don't have a handicapped relative that they are struggling to support?

I really don't know Verts. I was referring to those people who sit on the five foot way with a tin cup.
If they worked during the day and begged during the night, then that'd be fine, I guess.

    Don't you hit puberty at 13? I'm almost 16.

It's hard to tell who will put the money to good use. I only donate when I'm pretty sure they're not drug addicts or something.

    Something is wrong with me.

Survey in london said begging pays decent money as middle-class citizens would go about their 9-5 then go on the streets and pretend to be homeless making more than they do on their day job.

Crazy I know and it's unfair!

She put a curse on you! But seriously, I never donate especially because where I live in the capital there are millions of beggers and half of them have got some type of defect, I'd be bankrupt just walking to the shop and back if I done what you done!

Some blind guy was out side of a grocery store handing out cards, with his dog. I was about to fall to tears (of sadness) when he was handing out cards to nobody (he thought somebody was there.)

I'm the same way. After I see someone like that they get stuck in my head all day.

I do the same thing occasionally. It's best to buy them food, rather than give them money.

What's wrong with being compassionate? I don't see why that makes you question your mentality; it just makes you a nice person.

I cant stand seeing anybody in need when i know i live in a safe environment. but my parents taught me stuff like, they did it to themselves. or they can collect disability why do they need to take our earned money. I do really feel bad but best thing to do is to look past it

It does not matter if they are handicapped or not, and asking for donations. Always say no, I know it is hard, but say "No sorry, i have no money to spare". I myself am only 15 and allot of people ask for money around my town, and its fairly small. But, no matter what the size, i just say "No, sorry." and walk off, or just stand in a stance that looks farely scarey, so they will run. But when they try to steal from you, its a different story. Its not hard to catch them, but its sad they would resort to that, just for a bit of money for drugs. Anyways, Just ignore them. :)
