better the armour, longer you'll last.
get a good weapon. Perferably a whip. Full rune. If you can go bigger get a godsword. Or dragon armour. Dont get barrows because you'll have to pay to repair it. if you can go even bigger then that, buy some bandos.

 

How is prayer experience compared to combat experience when doing Soul Wars?
