Xbox live headset {NEED HELP}

Yea so recently, I purchased the new xbox 360, and right away I played live.

Unfortunately I couldn't hear what my friends were saying from the headset so I had a hard time hearing them so I thought it was broken and got a new one just today and it still seems like it's broken. I checked on the site of xbox but I really don't know what to do because I have the new xbox 360 and I think their information is for the xbox 360 premium, pro, elite, and arcade so if you guys would like to help, please post here, thanks.

Did you check the mic settings? It's something like.
Hear sound from.
Mic and TV.
Just mic.
Just TV.
None.

Check if it's not on none.
Still if it's working ring up microsoft or something.

 

when i got xbox for some reason my settings would not allow me to hear public voice, or friend voice....check those settings just in case, you never know
