My Dog Just Made A Weird Noise

So I'm sitting on my couch and my dog is beside me when all of a sudden he starts making a coughing noise and his body starts convulsing.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any more unusual I could swear he said my name.
I don't know if I heard someone calling me from another room or I thought I heard something but I could swear it came from his mouth.
Am I losing my mind? Should I be concerned?

 

He probably had something like a fur-ball caught in his throat, it happens to our dog every now and then. Unless he starts to do it all the time there's no need to see a vet.

 

yeah but wat about the name??? If you here him do it again call some sort of newspaper and start filming your dog 24/7. My old dog used to make demon noises then 5 years later tried to kill me and my mom but luckily i got to a gun before he could do any serious damage.

 

You might have been suffering from a mild hallucination.

 

I know it's probably a little different, but my cat has done that a few times too. It can be something trivial like a furball, but it could be a sign of something more severe. How long did these convulsions last?

 

If the convulsions lasted for quite a long time, then you should be concerned. Did he thrash about the place? Or did he just lie there convulsing?
It happens a lot of the time if there's a furball stuck in their throat though.

I wouldn't be concerned about the dog calling your name. It's probably just hallucinations.

Its a fact dogs/cats gets fur balls in thheir throat.

This is the first time I have seen this happen, it lasted about 10 seconds.

 

ah they do it when they have a dream or something my dog does that .

 

He may have had a seizure, they are very common in dogs. My lab had one a few years ago.
There is a 0% chance he said your name.
If he keeps acting strangely, I would take him to the vet.

 

Yeah, my dogs do that too.

 

My dog has had a similar experience while she was sleeping. It sounded like she was having a seizure, but I wasn't exactly sure. It took me a moment to ring her back in with reality.

 

my old dog did this...if your dog does this more then once you should get it to a vet because epilepsy is a concern. the seizures got so bad in my dog we had to put her down. she started foaming at the mouth biting us, etc. very freaky. so yes epilepsy is a concern for sure

 

Have you been smoking any kind of strange rocks or black soap you find in your parents/older siblings drawers? lol Jk. my dog did this for a while was it like convulsing like shaking or just like it looked like he was taking REALLY big hard breaths? my dog has done both and doctor said it was asthma attacks and the convulsing like shaking was his airways closing kinda tightly

 

Don't worry -
Ten seconds isn't too long, probably a fur ball.

 

If it has just happened once, then really he has nothing to worry about. Animals get fur-balls all the time; unless it is happening very frequently there's nothing to fret over.

 

I think it is a seizure...my dog has these....every now and then...what kind of dog do you have?

If you do drugs that could be why or some sort of hallucination. Sometimes you think you hear something and you didn't.
