Free 7 Day RS membership trial, Scam?

So I recently got an email saying "You qualify for a free 7 day RuneScape subscription!"It seems legit, but I'm not sure if it is. Does anyone know if this is real or a scam?

However, in the fine print it says "Only valid for players who have not been members in the past." And my account that they're offering this for has been a member before, about 6 months ago. Plus they want Credit Card info.. Which leads me to believe it's a scam.

So does anyone know if this is a real offer or just a scam?

Yes there is 7 day free trial going on, but you need to check who the email came from as im sure people are trying to scam off this.

Nope, this is a serious thing Jagex put in. Seems odd that you'd get an email NOW, though, since they came out with it nearly a month ago.

But yeah, basically the way it works: Give them your credit card info. They add 7 days of membership to your account. During those seven days, you've gotta cancel the membership. You'll still have the remaining free days on your account, and you won't be charged anything. However, if you fail to cancel, when you've got 2 or 3 days left in the free week, they'll charge your credit card for the $5 or whatever it is, and add on another 30 days of regular membership and automatically sign you up for recurring payments.

So yeah, just be sure to cancel early. I wouldn't advise signing up for this through the email though- when you log into a free-play world, on that row of buttons at the top of the screen, just below the advertisement, there should be a button that says something like "Try Members FREE!" or something like that. Click that, and that's the "official" way to do it.

 

I made a new account and got 7 days free it is not a scam. But secretly it is! Basically you have to add a valid credit card and if you don't cancel before like 3 days remaining they figure you like being a member and charge you a month. But I was making my new account a member anyway so 7 free days w00t!

Exactly, why don't you just go on your RS account and enter it there, rather than an email link?

That way you know it's legit.

 

It's not a scam, but i wouldn't trust that email... simply do it through the site so that you know it's legit. Why would you send it to some random email?

 

I thought Jagex never sends e-mails?

 

The email is a scam.

 

They do if you have chosen to receive their newsletter in the email options.

Use runescape's link, don't click any link on that email. And make sure you cancel your payment before your time is up

 

After 7 days, if you have not canceled the membership, you'll be charged another month.

 

The scam is that they decide to charge you after the trial is over.
