Clearly a lot of people here dislike the updates Jagex have brought out. I'm sick of people constantly complaining, so post the name of the update here and why you dislike it, and I'll show you that it really isn't all that bad.

    Go.

    Here's a few to start:

    Dungeoneering.

    Constitution.

    Trade limit.

    Duel arena nerf.

    Graphics updates (any and all).

    New HP bar.

Explain to me why each update IMPROVED it's predecessor. (With the exception of Dungeoneering - it had no predecessor).

Dungeoneering - Perhaps not the skill people expected, but a new skill regardless. To some it may be boring, but evidently not everyone feels the same way, considering at present someone has 113 Dungeoneering. The rewards are also very beneficial. I can't really say a lot on this one, it's a matter of opinion.

Constitution - I don't see why everyone hates this one. It makes you hit more in the long run, and is very beneficial in the early levels. For example, if you hit an 8 before the update, that may well of been an 8.4, however it would of only taken away 8 hitpoints. Now, it will take away 84 hitpoints. It's a more accurate reading and once you get used to it, it's far better than hitpoints.

Trade Limit - They put this update in to place to stop scammers and to stop RWTing. It has proven to be extremely effective and has affected the game as they planned it to. You must remember than Jagex does not work in favor of cheating, but against it. This clearly stopped a lot of rule breaking, making it a successful update.

Duel Arena Nerf - By nerf I'm assuming you mean the staking limit. This was also put into place to stop RWTing. Again, it has proven to be an effective update.

Graphics Update - What's wrong with these? It just makes the game look alot nicer, and make it run alot smoother. I see no problem here.

HP Bar - Designed to fit in with the new (Improved) graphics updates.

So, JaGex improves the game to benefit themselves? What do they lose from people gaining more money/buying off sites etc?

This clearly proves they make such updates to lose players and oh actually, gain little 12year olds by doing the HP update so they can have more players in the LONG RUN. Because the veterans are getting older etc me 17.

Graphics. C'mon you don't like the old school?
They invest money onto graphics that clearly us veterans dislike.

The people that dislike the updates are complaining for a reason.

Dungeoneering cheated us out of a skill. It was a half-assed minigame, little thought was put into it as a whole. Run through randomly generated dungeons and do the same thing to gain experience; quite original. The person with stupidly high dungeoneering could of easily scripted a bot for it - or have multiple people playing on his account. The rewards are a waste of time, the best reward is a little better than a godsword - but how many hours of gameplay do you have to pour in for that? Too many.

Constitution was a desperate attempt to match the other online games on the market. It was instituted to make the game more appealing to newer players; i.e make Jagex more money. The more "accurate" hits are hardly a positive, they took the basis of the game most veterans were completely used to and flipped it on it's ass. No point. Useless updates all around.

The trade limit was the result of a panic-stricken company trying to pick up the pieces as quickly as possible. Were they about to face some pretty serious issues? Yes. They picked a terrible solution to the problem. Any game company that decides to morph fundamentals simply doesn't care for the veteran players. Very few players supported this update, this update marked the downfall of RuneScape. This should of been planned better, other solutions should have been seriously considered - and this should have at least been introduced to the game at a slower more relaxed pace, rather than "oops, we messed up".

Duel arena update goes hand in hand with the trade limit update, my reasoning remains the same. A rushed patch-up.

Graphics I can be a little more lenient on - this one is somewhat inevitable with a developing game. However, how difficult would it be to implement old graphics to those veterans (like me) who knew and loved the old cognitive graphics system? It isn't that hard to do, they exhibit no interest in the vets, new players never knew the difference. Who cares?

Both HP bars should be offered along with the old graphics engine.

The updates show us where their loyalty lies, don't be so quick to dismiss our opinions - we aren't clueless.

I am unaware of this update, please expand.

No, Jagex improves the game to benefit the players who play the game. Not the botters, the cheaters and all the rest of it. You said it yourself, the 'veteran' players are getting too old for the game, thus leaving. Therefore, Jagex have to work harder in order to please the new players. And you can't dislike improved graphics, technology is constantly advancing, expect more graphical updates and improved quality soon enough.

I do admit that Dungeoneering is probably one of, if not the only update I haven't been particularly fond of. I must say it is a rather tedious skill and they probably rushed it too much, but as for the rewards, if it takes getting a weapon better than a godsword (Making it the best weapon in the game?) then so be it. There'd be no point making it easy to obtain.

They are simply advancing in the same direction all the other MMORPG's are advancing in. The right one. As above, alot of the older players are leaving as they have better things to do, less spare time etc. Thus, they must make it more appealing to the new players. It's the same concept, I don't really see it as a major update.

I'm sure if they could think of anything better they would put that into place. I don't know about you, but I can't think of any other ways to stop RWTing. Yes, it may make money making a little bit harder, but in their eyes and those who play legit eyes, it's eliminating a huge problem with a relitively minor disturbance to the game.

    As above.

I think they are declining to add in the option to use the old graphics as it would take even more work keeping them in line with the new content, and they want to leave the past behind. Why would they want the older, more pixelated graphics on show? It wouldn't making the game brilliantly appealing. However, I do see your point, and by allowing people to use the old graphics it demonstrates how far the game has come.

I believe this fits in with the graphics updates ^

I was just reading through the Runescape section after not being in here for a while. Then I remembered why I stopped coming to this section, because every single thread is flooded with people complaining about the wilderness and what-not, it drives you crazy.

    Climbing boots nerf:

Climbing boots were renamed to "Rock Climbing boots," their GE price was set to 75k, and their alch value was set to 45k. Tenzig still sells untradeable climbing boots with no stat bonuses for 12 gp each.

We complain but we can't do jack.

I remember reading in the Q&A on the forums on the official site: Runescape.com that they were working on bringing Staking back and were working on fixing it etc. This was almost a year ago. No news.
Also, why invest money onto graphics? See how the try sue/close private servers etc? Why? They know they've made a bad move on patching, like Farcast said, RUSH patching on the game. People move onto privates to play the game that they enjoyed and paid for.

    Etc froogoscape

The trade limit update hasn't changed the game... Instead of botting throwaway accounts and exferring the cash people now bot their mains with more advanced scripts. They also changed the locations of their botting, it's not the yew trees of the f2p worlds anymore it's the hunting spots and soulwars.

Their is honestly nothing good that has come from this update, it didn't stop rwting, botting or scamming, those communities are bigger than ever.

Glad we can agree on part of this. The difference between the chaotic weapons and the godsword is so minimal that it isn't worth the 200+ hours you have to spend to get it. Believe me, if they were worth it many more people would use them.

That isn't really an argument. All it shows us is the game is slowly losing it's uniqueness. I know people of all ages that play RuneScape; they quit at all different ages - it has nothing to do with it.

You would think they'd of put a better solution into effect. But who wouldn't take the easier way out in this case? The company cares more about themselves than their customers, it's been made apparent numerous times. This is a major disturbance to the game, it destroys many of the most appealing aspects of RuneScape (merching, PKing, staking, even gifting friends).

They don't have to openly advertise the old graphics engine. I'm sure it could be slipped into the game in a subtle and easy manner. Advertise the new, keep the old. There is no setback to it. Glad we can agree partially on this.

Not really, the section is pretty diverse - I rarely see those types of threads anymore. Most people have given up, we know Jagex does not care. They haven't cut the veterans much slack. Adapt or leave.

This doesn't really affect the game, I was more leaning towards the bigger updates.

Why invest money on making the game look alot nicer and feel nicer to play, is what you're basically saying. They close private servers because they are stealing the game mechanics. You can't just rip someones work and re-distribute it. That's called plagiarism.

It has made RWTing alot harder, and soon enough all the methods will be patched. It has made money making via botting alot slower as now you can no longer transfer all the money onto the main account unless you have an effective method that requires no stats etc. I don't even think they exist anymore. As for scamming, it has clearly stopped it, as you can no longer switch the item at the last second, sell for stupidly high prices to noobs etc. It's just not possible.

Expected, to be honest. In order to benefit from members stats, you need to be a member. Makes sense, right?

    EDIT:

Yeah give me some time, trying to do some housework at the same time. I'll get round to replying to everyone, don't worry.

Well for your information, it was one of the most-complained about recent updates. A handful of people made tens of millions of GP, for what reason?
There was no logic behind the update.

Also, you stated that you're sick of the complaining - and that that's why you made this thread. Well... go back a few pages in the Rs2 General or Rs2 Pictures forums, and you'll find thread after thread of people complaining about Climbing Boots.
So please. Do your thread true, and tell me what was good about the climbing boots update.

Honestly, the climbing boots affected nobody negatively. It made people rich. So what?

If you were smart enough to merch them before the update, you would NOT be complaining, would you?

    Thought so.

The climbing boot update pumped millions of GP into an already inflated economy. Whether or not you actively took part in the "merch" it will passively affect everyone that plays the game.

New methods are constantly being discovered and people aren't going after the money anymore, they bot stats. I'm a legit maxed 60 attack 1 defence pure and I'm constantly fighting people with low hp and higher att etc, who have obviously botted because they have no knowledge of pking.

You've gotten yourself into a battle you can't win here, scamming isn't items its accounts these days, people just hack you and drop everything simply to spite you.

It's pretty simple, this update was poorly thought out and did not benefit the community.

It's nice to have a somewhat intelligent debate with someone for a change, rather than having people spam "I w4nt mah wild3rn4ss l0l pk3rz 4 lyf g.E ftl!!"

There is still quite a few threads complaining about the updates that removed the old aspects of the game. I think there should be a sticky for this kind of discussion. I know there is already an updates sticky, but people tend to use that to discuss new updates rather than the old ones.

    E.g
    http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=867955
    http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=867269

Ugh, this is hurting my head, constantly having to go back and read over what you are actually answering to. I wish when I quoted your quote, it would show my original post above what you said.. If you see what I mean..

If you think about it, it's a free improved godsword. You shouldn't do dungeoneering for the rewards, think of it as a bonus. If you enjoy dungeoneering, eventually you will be rewarded with the weapon, but what matters is you now have the skill level and you've had fun in the process. In my eyes fun and rewards is a good combination. However, I do admit they lacked the 'Fun' aspect with this skill.

If Jagex were to keep Runescape as it is, it would fall behind. People would stop joining, and they would eventually fall. Not to mention the noticeable drop in profit they would encounter.

The easy way out, or the only way out? I take my hat off to anyone who can come up with a better idea. Of course, they will care about money more than anything else. Who wouldn't? That's just how people work, unfortunetly. If there's potential profit, why the hell not? The new players who are the ones going to be paying for membership, referring their friends etc. That's who they care about, they aren't going to miss 'real' PKing, they will enjoy the game as it is whilst Jagex get richer.

Then every time they released new content, they would have to adjust, or sometimes revamp, the whole thing to fit in with the older graphics. It's extra work that they don't NEED to do, so why should they do it? To please a minority? It just won't happen.

See the start of this post.

So what, the economy will inflate, and soon enough will return to what it was before. it always does. Inflation is temporary.

I wouldn't give you anything less than an intelligent debate.

That's only two threads, and only one of them has to do with the trade limit and the wilderness.

Time is a huge investment, I wouldn't even begin to consider it free. How many people do you know that like dungeoneering so much they'd play it enough to be rewarded with a chaotic weapon?

RuneScape was extremely popular before with the old graphics. Why couldn't it continue to be so? If it once reeled in an audience, then it can do it again. They fail to realize that to make a fun game it doesn't have to look like every other heavenly coded MMO.

Exactly. This statement circles back to my main argument that they don't care about their veteran players. Glad we can agree.

Extra work that would entail extra money. It may have been a minority; but a large minority at that. There were countless supporters for the old graphics.

You've just contradicted yourself unless you're under the impression that an inflated economy is a positive thing.
