[Denied] New threads to remain on first page for x amount of time

Thread title says it all basically.

Just posted a thread somewhere and it got pushed to second page quite instantly.. lmao

I imagine this must be even more frustrating for new people.

Is there no way to allow for newly created threads to atleast remain on first page for x amount of hours for example?

 

I honestly think this is a good thing. This means members have to come back in a few hours to re-bump their thread or donate to use an auto bumper. I don’t think being on the 2nd page would stop or slow sales either because as a buyer, you are going to want to view majority of threads on both pages to find best price/whatever you’re looking for.


As for being pushed to the 2nd page almost instantly.. I think it just comes down to timing. I don’t think it would be fair to have a ton of newly created threads stuck on the first page over sellers who have been on the site for years/months trying to sell their goods.

 

This would predominantly prioritize threads posted by newcomers since a lot of established members simply reuse the same threads.

Why is it more frustrating for new people? Everyone’s threads are equal, and get “pushed” beyond the first page at the same rate.

I personally don’t use an auto bumper and think they’re bad for the site. However, Lots of folks have paid big money for the ability to use them. This would largely inhibit their effectiveness.

The thing is that if we were to use the x amount of hours, this would still encourage newcomers to donate for autobumper as well as leave their thread first page for let’s say 4 hours.

After that the bumpers will most likely take over again.

With so many threads being bumped I don’t think it’s got much to do with timing.. you will most likely go to second page within 30 min of creating your thread.

 

This just means there are lots of market threads being bumped to the top page. The market is competitive and because of that, the rules should be consistent for everyone.

 

No support, every user has equal rights to bump their thread once every 4 hours.

OT: I realize this would put autobumpers and perks a bit behind, however it would help motivate new market users.

For argument's sake, let's say new threads would remain 1st page for 5 hours. The amount of new threads being made is so tiny that it would have basically no impact on current market users. Meanwhile, new market users would enjoy 5 hours of decent thread views and potential contact with other users within the market. Networking is a good reason for new users to stay around, so this also serves as a benefit.

After 5 hours, the thread would lose its "priority" and other threads would be able to bump above it. I believe you would all agree this has almost no impact.


I see how this somehow meddles with "free market", however we need to help new users. In helping new users, we are also helping the site itself as these users would potentially become a part of Sythe.

 

And what stops existing users from creating a new thread, disabling the old thread?

 

Ah yes, I didn't think of that. They would lose the big number of threads they have on the threads I guess :kekw:

Would need to find a solution for this (if there even is any)

 

Removal of autobumpers would be amazing but wouldn't be possible to do since a lot of users may complain with the argument that the reason they got $300 donor is to use an autobumper.
