Add...

• SOTW award (increase participation in SOTW and graphic in general)
• More group-based activities (increase community feel, decrease flaming)
  • Sythe GFX worm (run before, but failed because of mod inactivity)
  • Co-op art (better the community, teach different GFX styles)
• SOTW stock suggestion thread (more user input in SOTW, less required of mods)

Remove...

• MOTM subforum (inactive, doesn't require a subforum)
• Inactive/useless stickies
• Bad behavior

The good:

Moderators are active in giving feedback, averaging a few posts each day in just their section.
A few very useful (but rarely updated) stickies
A few good ideas, but theyre not acted upon​

Problems and solutions:

Inactivity in SOTW

• Offer a reward - theres nothing wrong with a one week name title that says SOTW 16 Winner with a hyperlink leading to the SOTW thread. Maybe a one week rank (very simple to make).
  
• Allow members to participate in the choice of stocks - maybe create a thread where they can post some suggested pictures.

Useless subsections

• A subsection for MOTM is waaay overboard. Just add a sticky.

• GFX Terms [Updated 09-26-09]

Bad behavior

Ive seen a few people flame. In the very rare case that theyre confronted for it, they usually flame more, or are defended.

This is a good example. Desu flames m0htasa excessively, Finn - administrator - tells him to stop, and T R 1 B A L flies in and undermines Finn.

Great ideas fall apart

  This thread was pretty active and everyone was excited about it, but the very last participant -- T R 1 B A L, who was the moderator running the activity -- failed to post an entry. Everyone forgot about it and a worm hasnt been made since, despite the large amount of interest.
  
• The few stickies that are actually helpful are rarely updated.

I think the SOTW is running pretty smoothly now, it's set up and running. We actually did have a GFX Worm, but I don't know what happened to it. Maybe it got removed when the activity in the GFX section dropped a lot. I really don't think a stock section should be added. You can always ask for stock suggestions in the help forum, that's no problem. I do believe that the GFX section is far too inactive for a MOTM at the moment, but that is the moderators choice. You could PM one of the GFX moderators if you feel a sticky is inappropriate and/or out of date and tell them about it. If you see any bad behavior, simply report it and as soon as a GFX moderator see's the report, it should be dealt with.

 

But surely more activity couldnt hurt?

I noted what happened to the worm later on in the thread.

I didnt say a section. I said we could add a thread so that members feel like they have more input in SOTW. It could increase activity and it would be a lot easier for the moderators to pick good stocks, if they decide to continue doing single-stock SOTWs.

Thats the problem: even ex-mods are endorsing the flamers. The mods need to play an active roll to deter this, we shouldnt have to report everything when there are very few threads in the GFX section as is.

 

Yeah, more activity would be great, but I think just a winners thread be appropriate.

Sorry - I only read your Add: Remove: points, it's late and I'm tired. I'd love for the GFX Worm to be active again!

I'd agree on a sticky in the Help section for this sort of thing.

Most moderators are quite busy though, it's easier to look for reports than to scroll for threads.

 

Dont worry about it, thats probably all most people will read. I edited it so it was more specific.

But the graphics moderators should be looking at these thread to critique them anyway. Thats why we have them, and there arent many threads.

 

Critiquing members work isn't part of being a moderator.

 

I disagree. I think graphics moderators should actively critique other users. Theyre supposed to be the most experienced artists, and how else will new users learn?
Anyway, this is beside the point, as theyre already critiquing pretty regularly.

 

I'm glad you're concerned, but honestly, our graphics section is very inactive. I understand where you're coming from. But, me, draucia, and the administrators can in fact handle it. If you were here around November of 2008, you would have seen the activity we had. If you're looking for a great graphics forum, please, go to planetrenders. They're completely organized.

 

If the flaming/bad behaviour continues, the offenders will be banned from the graphics forum indefinitely.

 

It doesnt have to be inactive. Im sure if you worked on some of the things Ive listed youd see a lot more activity.

I just thought it could be a good chance to get more activity to SOTW.

 

I did make a thread for the stock, and I thought it was kind of a good idea. A whole new sub-section isn't really needed, though. There's tons of threads like this, but not many people are interested in gfx on sythe. Most of them ethier go to the blackmarket or the spam forum. Others are confused on how to get photoshop because they don't want to pay for it. Maybe if we get like a $5 donation we could make a sotw winner prize.

 

It is also that they are confused on how to use it and give up.

Some sort of reward so SOTW would help out in the long run. Even if there would be some people using paint or such, at least they would be trying and bringing more attention to the forum.

The Graphics battles pretty much devolve into every post that offers a "constructive opinion" saying: These are both bad, but I like PERSON's more, or these are good for being 3 layers/taking 5 minutes, but I like PERSON's more.

It's like every person in the section has a larger ego than the last.
