I am in dire need of a new laptop. I have had my Dell inspirion E1705 for 3+ years now.

This will be third laptop. I am looking for a few specific things now. Looking to spend $1,000 - $1,500

    Windows 7 64 Bit
    i7 Processor Quad core processor
    6 GB RAM DDR3 only
Hard drive - Doesn't matter I have 2 TB externals anyways
Graphics - 1 GB card will suffice
Display - Must 17' or bigger
Must be CD/DVD writable with Dual layer support - would also like blu ray if possible
    Must have a good webcam
Would like either integrated fingerprint reading or facial recognition for files etc
Must have integrated Wireless N support with bluetooth
Would also like it to have an integrated hybrid HDTV tuner

Any other features I should look at? Also anyone got opinions on HP, Asus or Acer?

And should I go to BestBuy and get it there or build it myself off the manufacturers websites?

The best thing to always do is to customize your own laptop. $1500 is a lot to play around with and all those things you listed above can pretty much cover it. I wouldn't recommend Asus or Acer. HP has a great 1-year warranty that pretty much covers anything.

As to what Haha said. It's mainly true. But you need to specify what kind of laptop you are looking for, (Recreational use, Gaming etc.)

    I recommend these.

I just actually bought a laptop @ Bestbuy.

Got a 2yr coverage plan with it also. If I spill a drink on my keyboard they replace it for free. If I drop my laptop accidentally they replace whatever part for free etc etc

<3 alienware, if you have enough money buy one
the only thing about laptops i dont like is that just about every one i have overheats very badly, which will fry the parts inside, if you read the comments try to make sure they dont say that it gets really hot
