My thoughts on "God" and religions.

But if that god doesn't exist, then wouldn't that meaning be invalidated?

Or does one necessarily have to believe in a god to form a sense of purpose in the first place?

My view on why there are religions, is that they are used as a method of control, many religious people live their lives abiding by rules laid down in these religions (man-made rules may I add), without the moral code laid down, anarchy would more than likely prevail. Religions, I believe, are man-made creations, not divine.

I always hate seeing religious debates. Neither side will budge. As for your theory, what is to suggest caused the natural laws that governed the creation of those particles that make up our universe. One could point to a God. Or you could point to the fact that every plausible universe is as equally as plausible as the next, so this was a random act of chance. But yet this governing force will still be called God. Your argument, in my opinion, propagates God as being involved somewhere in this process. Either way, I don't think your argument is anything new so I'll leave it at that. FYI Atheist :D

Well, he may not be more intelligent than any of us ( even though I think he is ). He just thinks befrore he posts, so he can carefully build his statements and opinions.

Of course religions are man-made. Everyone agrees on that point. You are right that certain religions were founded on a strive for power, however, other religions were founded on an attack on unjust treatment and hoarding of power. Still, the exact ideology of all religions usually serves to enhance one's life.

My thoughts on "God" and religions.

Yes but religions supposedly have some links to a divine being, and rules laid down come from divine inspiration and not man. Supposedly God gave Moses the commandments, and supposedly Jesus told Peter to build "his" church. Reality is, man devised all of this. People are too hung-up on finding meanings to life, and how we came into being, rather than just living. Religions only exist because of this search, and the gullibility of man.

That is very possible. Though, the essence of a religion is not its rules laid down by a divine being.

Way to prove his point exactly good job tool.

I agree with almost everything you've said. If there is truly a source for everything in existence, humans are to simple to be able to comprehend it; and because of our thirst for answers, we will never be able to settle with this fact, thus "god" is created.

My thoughts on "God" and religions.

I don't believe in a God and I'm a Roman Catholic. Mostly because I believe something that has already been stated in this thread: men create stories to 'fill in the gaps' on matters that they cannot explain completely. I find it hard to believe in something that is so widely debated and every religion has flaws. I have literally debated this topic (through speech and text) probably 100 times. I can't be bothered to explain my personal beliefs etc. because I'm sick and tired of debating this, because it seems that no matter how much i argue the other arguing party never gives in.
Do you not think it's a waste of time arguing this point? You don't gain anything from arguing it, it's down to personal belief and some people can't handle being wrong through and it's expressed through stubbornness.

People need someone to look up too. They need someone to blame for all there troubles and thank for all there "blessings"

When something doesnt go your way you blame god When something nice happens you thank him.

The fact that back way way way way back people prayed to things they knew would always be there. ( or so they thought) Before mainstream religioun people prayed to the sun because it was always there, they prayed to the moon and so on

Then one day some guy decided hey ima name these things and thus "gods" were born.

people need to know what happens when they die they need to know that everything will be okay and that in this giant cold lifeless universe There is a purpose for ourselves and that we will be taken care of.

The fact is the universe is a big fucking place and there is bound to be another civilization some were and the proof is all around us.

Do they believe in god? should they be sent to hell? It just doesnt make much sense to me.

God exist in a form that makes people happy, the most influence people in society are fictional people.

Is he an amazing dedi that watches over us as we kill each other destory his earth and pretty much disgrace him everytime we step out of our house?

    When you die your dead.

I don't really know what to believe. I disagree with said "Big Bang".
To fill Space, You need space for it to go, and for the space in which you'd be filling, there must be space for that, too. I think that everything is just a theory. I also believe that God became relied on when Humans could not turn to anything else. We as humans are a Primative, Stupid Species who thrive on power. If we could rule everybody by claiming we knew how it all happened, Then everything would be great.

Lets say you have a balloon with ants inside of it, all they know is the two dimensions they have been given. That could also be true with us. We see four dimensions and there likely be more dimensions that we can't begin to understand. For all we know there could be a tenth dimension and that dimension could be some sort of "god" but who can really know for sure you know?

On what basis would you compare humans with ants inside of a balloon?

He just wanted to make a point on that maybe we can't observe all the dimensions, just four.
