Really annoyed at Verifiers

Where did I say it was? It's the staff's fault for not even trying to resolve the problems the system was removed for. Re-adding it has proved to have been very poorly (and even irresponsibly, in the case of ImAgInATion) thought out.

This "just PM the verifiers" is not a practical solution to a real problem that's only going to persist.

 

I agree with this, unfortunaly most people seem to be missing the point and addressing the "leaked guide" sales, when the problem your aiming this at is the face that there are many repeat guide in the verifyied section. IMO this does not seem like it would be that hard to solve, review the guides that are the same and only keep the original, or something along those lines.

 

I agree with Sin. Guide leaking will be a never ending problem and I don't like the idea of "official verifiers", whether they be staff or not. Having staff members and other trusted members verify guides to improve guide sales is okay, but having a verified guides section will just cause problems.

 

Idea for official verifiers:

They should have their own sub-forum (similar to the staff lounge) to themselves where only they and the admins can see it. Here, they post a thread with the method they verified. A clear description of the method should be made in the title of the thread. Everytime somebody wants a guide verified the verifies should check their own sub-forum and see if it has been verified before. If it has been verified before, then they should lock the user's thread (who is trying to sell it again). If it hasn't been verified before then they simply verify the guide and create a new one in the official verifiers sub-forum.

 

There's already a private guides forum and lots of guides are simply recycled and sold again. It's not really fair to only allow one person to sell a specific method.

Why not? look at it as real property, lets say I (r2pleasant) purchase a 1000 chairs from someone, these chairs are awesome so I'm selling them at $17.99 a piece. One of the people who purchased one of my chairs modifies it a little or even non at all and starts selling his chairs (VERY CLOSE TO MINE) at $3.00 a piece.

If this was a business (which it is) this would not be allowed and the people who are reselling the somewhat modified chairs would have to deal with some issues. Here however they are free to sell the same guide over and over and over, however we do not allow reselling? what is this?

This is exactly what is happening and the real people who found the guides are losing out because some person is selling it cheaper than them without re-sale rights.

This has it's own problems, as it requires anyone who wishes to get their guide verified to release their method to - what is it currently, 7? - people before selling a single copy. (This does not include admins, who can see all forums, and possibly globals.)

Then no one would sell decent guides. Virgil's analogy pretty much falls flat on its face since his scenario is perfectly legal, but patents do exist for a reason. In particular, they exist to reward the creator of a product for the investment of research and development.

If anyone could resell a guide, then the price would quickly fall to virtually nothing - and that's assuming it's not even leaked. In a competitive market, price = marginal cost. The marginal cost of a guide is 0. Thus, if Bob buys a guide for $10, he'll create a thread and try to sell 3+ copies for $3 each to turn a profit. But, each person who paid $3 will turn around and try to sell 3+ copies for $1.50. The people who paid $1.50 will then turn around and...

You get the picture. Thus, there's really no motive for people to go out and develop new transfer methods (at least for the purpose of selling as a guide), because they're bound to get almost nothing for it.

 

@Sin666 - that's why only 1 person should be able to sell a guide... and you shouldn't be allowed to re-sell any guide. In other words there should be no re-sale rights AT ALL.
Also if anyone is caught doing it there should be a punishment.

Any thoughts on that?

it takes ages to get a guide verified i once pmed all the verifiers to verify my guide not one responded.

 

Took 15 minutes for me.

 

1. They shouldn't be all different prices as 1 person made the guide, and they didn't sell re-sale rights to ANYONE. So no-one else should technically be selling the guides (something the verifiers have missed)

2. I didn't buy the guide off you so I don't know why your facepalming yourself so much?

 

This is why forum software isn't made for everything...

Guides Sales vB Plugin must be made in order to organize, or something to sort the guide sales, the verified ones, etc.
