    Changing a STATIC IP Address

    Changing a STATIC IP Address

    Step 1.

Disconnect your Modem from the power and remove the ethernet cable from the modem to the router.

    Step 2.

Connect your computer directly to the modem and wait 5 minutes then put the power cable back in.

    Step 3.

Disconnect your modem from the power again and remove the ethernet cable from the modem to your computer and plug in back the cable that goes from your router to your modem then connect your computers cable back in the router.

    Step 4.

Wait 5 minutes again because the MAC address of your router again is different from your computers network card.
The ISP(Internet Service Provider) should ''lease'' you a new IP address.

    Step 5.

Go onto http://www.whatismyip.com/ to check your IP.

I hope I've helped you with this guide,

    Greetings,

    Mr.Business

You should include pictures to keep people entertained. And don't you mean dynamic IP. Unless your ISP is completely ass backwards compared to mine. None the less is well organized. 6/10 until pictures.

    Changing a STATIC IP Address

    For anyone who reads this:

Nearly all connections from any ISP in the world are Sticky Dynamic IP addresses, issued by a DHCP server.
ISP's have different times on how long the SDIP's stick, for some it might suffice to turn the router off for 5 minutes, for some it sticks for 2 weeks and after that you get a new one, the IP you had might become available again for anyone after 2 weeks(This is just an example but this is the system Reykjavík Internet Exchange uses here in Iceland)

Static IP addresses DO NOT change, no matter what you do, those kinds of transfers have to be made by an ISP's internet management and often will not be done for you unless there is a problem with your connection (invalid IP address not validated by IPv4 but somehow found its way into the pool - extremely rare)

Basically: There is nothing correct in that guide, what he meant to say was Sticky Dynamic IP's but he is obviously not informed on this subject.

You can't change a static IP address by cloning a MAC address; unless you're talking about the IP address the router gives you, in which case there are easier ways.

Yeah but cloning your mac address takes like a minute tops so it is fairly easy ;p

Yeah but I doubt anyone that doesn't have to clone a MAC address often has software to do that... and if it's router integrated you might as well just change your IP address manually since you have to log onto the router.
