    define insanity?

What makes you insane? I recently visited my brother who is institutionalized. I met some pretty normal people there in my opinion and im just wondering what makes its ok for someone else to say you have no right to do anything without being supervised?

Is it depression? suicidal thought? mass murders? rapist? i just dont understand who we can categorize as insane.

    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=define:insanity

The general definition is when one is in an abnormal state of mind that leads to:
    a) The inability to function
    b) Danger to the wider community and oneself.

    define insanity?

Everyone is insane, but it is to what extent.

Some people cut themselves to show out, or just for fun, that's insane.
Others were not loved as kids, or whatever there reason may be, and rape someone. that is insane.

IMO all people are insane, but some can control there thoughts. Like whenever I go running around my track and I see some girl there, I always first look at her ass and not her face. Will I rape them, more then likely not.

There are some people that can not control, or are very good at acting, their thoughts. That is my definition of insanity.

    define insanity?

Insanity is defined as a person who does the same thing over and over again, each time expecting a different result. For example, a person who thinks 2+2 is 5, then adds to see that it is 4, and after seeing the result, adds 2 and 2 again, expecting it to be 5, is declared insane.

Nowadays, insanity is defined as behaviors deemed abnormal in terms of mental stability. I find it appalling to see people charged with homicides and other horrible crimes found not guilty by reason of insanity. There's just no real way of diagnosing people with the illness.

    define insanity?

In the sense of crime, there's a pretty important but grey line between sanity and insanity. Sanity is generally defined as one having a mind that can control their actions, and insanity is having one that can't, or can very poorly

insane people, are people who cannot control themselves. They either ; do what they want, even if it is very bad, OR use drugs to control themselves.

    define insanity?

How can we tell if someone who murdered there family is insane and someone who murdered one person isnt? people go to jail for murders and some people get away with it because of "temporary insanity"

I don't see how one can be "Temporary insane" and it bothers me that the legal system actually like takes this serious or in better words think it to be a possibility when judging one to be guilty of a sick crime.

I totally agree. Temporary insanity is one of the most stupid excuses. Let's say I killed my family. I could argue that I was temporarily insane, couldn't I? I could go free, as many others do, with an excuse that shouldn't even be one.To answer your question, we can't tell. If someone kills their own family, the least you could do is own up to it, not think of ridiculous subterfuges to get out of it. This judicial rule just makes me sick.

    define insanity?

Insanity, craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns. Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including becoming a danger to themselves and others, though not all such acts are considered insanity. In modern usage insanity is most commonly encountered as an informal unscientific term denoting mental instability, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defence.

    define insanity?

If somebody needs drugs to act 'Normal', whatever that is in todays world, is classed as insane. I think that insanity is mainly seen in people of a bad Childhood, yet most people I've seen to be insane are very smart. I think intelligence makes people Crazy. Their minds are constantly working and working.

Alot of you are saying that an insane person is someone who puts others around him in danger. But thats not right, that would just be a dangerous person. Id say an insane person has to have a severe personality disorder. Psychopathy, Schizophrenia ect.

    define insanity?

An excuse used to explain those who put deeper thought into things. Insanity is catagorised by ones actions, yet nobody can actually say You are insane because they have a view different from most. I think "insane" in the dictionary should say "See 'Unique'."

    define insanity?

Dedicating your life to an imaginary being from a fictional book written millions of years ago, making it your goal to please him/her/it so that when you die you will have everything you've ever wanted. Sound familiar? There's a thin-line between "faith" and insanity. THIS IS NOT A SHOT AT CHRISTIANS. JUST THE CRAZY ONES THAT LET RELIGION TAKE OVER THEIR LIFE.

    define insanity?

I'm in not mistaken, the Bible wasn't written "Millions of years ago".
Also, I believe that if people think that when they die, they go to a better place, then why not just kill themselves?
I'd rather live for what I can, doing what I can and achieving the best of my ability and standard, In which point, I'll be at peace with myself.

I like that quote, it's very well thought out. Who was it a quote off?

Yes but by your reasoning and example, if they keep killing and think it is alright, no matter what you tell them they will always think that way.
