Diagnosed with Hepatitis B (serious)

I'm 18, and I've been diagnosed with Hepatitis B
they picked it up when I donated blood.

IF YOU ARE YOUNG ALWAYS GET A BLOOD TEST SOMETIME IN YOUR LIFE. shit like this doesn't have any noticeable symptoms when you're young. I'm thankful they caught it early. apparently most people CAN live a normal life.

1/4 die of liver cancer, 1/6 die of liver cirrhosis. not good odds for me but I think of people with terminal cancer already and other disabilities and I'm in a good position

basically i'll need regular blood tests, every 3 months - 1 year. Specialist said when I'm 30 my liver will on into a decline if im unlucky and probably downhill if untreated, so I'm thankful again they found it

I have not told anyone, only my parents, hospital and I know.
I am posting this because I need to get it out and I don't know how i'm going to tell my friends/teachers/girlfriend. reality is they'll probably alienate me because it is infectious.

Just worried about my career, not my health as im feeling fine atm 5'10 174 lbs.

I'd tell your girlfriend as soon as possible because it's really unfair for you to put her at risk for a disease this serious.

Also, is it curable? Why did you never get vaccinated for it?

That fucking sucks. Any kind of permanent/long-term disease is a real bummer.

Take this as you will, but a really healthy (sugar-free, preservative free, allergen free) diet will ensure you live as healthy a life as any other person.

 

Isn't hep B curable? I thought it was C that wasn't curable?

I had a friend who had received AIDS because of a blood donation he had received, since he had Hemophilia (When he got cut he wouldn't stop bleeding) so he needed regular blood donations, and someone with AIDS had donated, and he had received it. He later died.

they said when i was young, i had low immunity against it and a direct blood transfusion overwhelmed my immune system. i've had it probably for over 15 years so its chronic, meaning i'll have it for the rest of my life.

 

You know, this story really touches me as well as iSwaps, because you would think these Hospitals would take necessary precautions to prevent things like that from happening.

Obviously they are doing a shitty job.

 

Sorry to hear that, I hope Hep B is curable and also, hiding this tragic news from your loved ones is the worst possible thing you can do.

 

Hep B isn't curable. I have it chronically meaning it'll be with me the rest of my life.

Pretty shitty because you can't even turn to alcohol to solve your problems.

However at least be thankful for the years of life given to you at the cost of this disease. It gave you your life and now it's slowly taking it back. Poetic almost.

Sorry for your illness but don't be a dick and not tell your girlfriend and close friends if it puts them in danger.. you can easily tell them and if they really care about you they will invest the time in a hep. b vaccine.

 

I'll probably tell her sometime this weekend. we havent had sex yet. Just been together for 2 months.
