Not really the point I was trying to make. Background checks are useful, but they're not everything - had Imagination simply tried to hide his identity on HF, he easily could have escaped notice and come up clean. The real problem is that he was a fairly unknown entity who never would have passed a vote to become a moderator. The problem, then, is why he passed a vote to become a verifier: the staff should not lower their credentials. As noted, it's not a trivial position.

 

The thing is, I completely agreed with this during the selection process.
I questioned Pen on why he chose Imagination, as he was relatively unknown, hardly trusted at all, etc etc. But I figured that he probably knew better than me and I might as well give Imagination a chance.

 

I'd agree with you that ex-admins/mods were generally trusted at one point or another. But as far as the UE rank goes, and I'm sure most people would agree with me, it is in no way an emblem of trust. Plain and short, it's just a way of signifying you've contributed guides to Sythe.

 

I don't know why Pen chose Imagination either. I haven't even heard of him before he became an Official Guide Verifier. I was expecting someone else to get that part. But Imagination got it...

 

The way they were chosen, to my knowledge, is based on how Pen(or the other staff) felt about said verifier.

Also, as far as I know, it's completely unknown(other than speculation) as to how the process of choosing these people occurred.

What I'd like to see is an explanation, which I think Pen may have given a short sloppy one; or a user simply better explained it afterwords. In all honesty, I believe it should come the same way as OMM's are chosen except for as much needed.

The only problem is we'd be left verifier-less for the amount of time it takes someone to apply and be accepted.

Incorrect. If you think you can write 5 guides and get in based on that, feel free to try and get rejected. Between Rob/Dalph's leadership, and the current group of UE's, we judge the applicants based ALOT more on Sythe character traits rather than simply writing 5 guides.

I am in no way promoting the idea that UE should be responsible for handling the guides, but simply debunking the idea that anyone can get the rank simply by applying with 5 guides.

Regarding Imagination's nomination, I questioned ie the UE forums why he was chosen, as I have VERY rarely seen him in the market section doing much of anything. I am confident in the other 3 picks however, all 3 were excellent choices and I have no doubt they will do a fine job with their new duties.

 

Sythe character traits? That would contradict the UE rank if you look for people who have good traits as opposed to good guides. The base of a UE application is the 5 guides. Maybe you'd like the person to have good people skills and be friendly, but since the UE was first created, before your time here on Sythe, the basis of the section has been guides.

Either way your argument doesn't disprove my statement that the UE rank is not to be seen as a token of trust.

 

This is just another bullshit perk like UE that all established members get. The people who are verifiers are just sucking up to get mod. Jus' callin' it how I see it. There are enough mods. The mod to normal member ratio is wayy to high. I just see this as another unnecessary update.

No offense, but you have no idea what your saying. Yes, UE was created before my time on Sythe, but according to the UE private forum stickies, you judge the application off of more than guide quality. If such were the case, in the past 2 weeks the 5 rejected applications would have been accepted. The basis of the application is the 5 guides, but we review the persons Sythe history as well.

No I have not disproven it is a token of trust, my point was that you can bte some scrub and expect to write 5 guides and get in.

 

I don't have to be a part of the UE team to know a lot about it.

The truth is, on the rank spectrum, UE is last as far as credibility is concerned.

 

If the spectrum is the mod/OMM/UE spectrum, its still pretty high up there then.

And if you honestly believe yourself to be so well informed of how the section works, I encourage you to attempt an application on the basis of 5 well written guides, perhaps your denial would open your eyes a bit to the high standards that we hold our applicants.

 

Well, let me compare it to your high standards then. If I provided 5 well written guides and you were to deny me, that would mean I didn't have a sufficient Sythe background and sufficient "Sythe characteristics".

That goes without mentioning any UE biases.

 

Are you guys being serious? I've never looked at user educators any different than regular users trust wise.

 

That's because they aren't. There isn't any trust involved with the UE rank.
