VPS help

Can someone please explain to me what is, and what the purpose of, a VPS? I had always thought this was simply something you paid a monthly fee for which changes your IP address, but apparently its something entirely different.

An explanation of what it is, and what it is used for, in complete noob language, would be greatly appreciated.

 

Its basically you pay monthly and you use someone else's computer, kind of like over teamviewer but you own it, its also a different IP. Lots of botters are using it now so if jagex checks there botted accounts IP not all there accounts get banned,also so they can run bots 24/7 easier.

 

And it doesnt affect your computer at all, like increase lag on it or anything? Are they easy to set up?

 

Nope not that i know of, and im not sure, theres a guide on one somewhere on sythe, altohugh i may be thinking of a VPN, might be the same thing, ask sindre hes gonna buy one soon too.

Well, it decreases lag because you wont have to run bots on your computer, you can run them all on your VPS. Keep in mind your VPS does not affect your computer at all, its a whole nother "Server" Hence the name Virtual Private Server.

 

It's just a remote computer you have access to.
