Age 11 finn? don't you think that might be a little young.

When I was 11 I was still watching SpongeBob, and was in Elementary school. I would never even think about getting drunk.

This, drinking ages don't stop anyone. These ages are ideal.

Underage drinking, and the drinking age.

German drinking age is actually 16, 18 or 14 depending on the product. The only 100% way to combat underage drinking, is to remove the drinking age

It should be 16+, as it already is here in Denmark. And see, we are the world's happiest people.

And driver license is 18, so it's all good with me. Rather 16+ for alcohol than 16-year-olds driving around in a car.

    18+ IMO.

My parents always talked about how when they were 18 they were able to drink, and they said that it actually worked quite well.

I think it should be more directed towards if your out of high school, then you can drink ( your no longer considered a child?)

I think the Dutch have it right; sixteen for beer and eighteen for spirits. My parents haven't had a problem with me drinking, they've been buying be beer since I was about fifteen/sixteen.

Let's start by ruling out 21, obviously too much.

I'm actually quite fine with it being at +18. Underage people shouldn't be encouraged to drink, which removing the limit obviously would do. But then again, I don't think that underage drinking is such a bad thing either. Besides the fact that it's, well.. good :D, it adds the excitement to the lives, being able to do something against the rules. And let's face it, if someone is that crazy about alcohol that they wouldn't be able to handle it at the age of, let's say 16, they will still get access to it 2 years later and the consequences will be the same.

18 is fine for me. I'm 18 next month, yet I drink with mates etc. at pubs and such. I just get them to buy me drinks.

Same is going to happen here in Denmark from 2011.

Alcohol containing more than 17% (if I remember right) will be 18+ and everything under that will still be 16+. I'd much rather have it all at 16, though.

abolish the drinking age, put the responsibility with the parents on whether to allow their kids to drink or not, they're going to drink regardless whether or not a law tells them not to

This has been the general idea and i think it's a good one. So what you guys are saying is that drinking should be like smoking? Under 18s can do it legally but stores can only sell to 18+?

    I think 16+.
As long as you don't drink and drive, whats the difference between 16 and 21?

I think 19 is the ideal age for being allowed to legally drink. That's how they have it in canada.

Maturity level and responsibility. 16 year olds are very very immature and irresponsible, especially in north America.

Yes but that's always going to be the same, may aswell introduce kids to alcohol when they can't drive.. so by the time they do know how to drive they understand it's effects. and hopefully reduce the number of Alcohol related car accidents

    What?

No it's not. A person who is 21 does not have the same level of maturity a 16 year old kid has. A 21 year old will have enough sense not to drink and drive. A 16 year old will be more willing to drink and drive than a 21 year old any day, no matter what you teach them. 16 year olds don't always listen.

Well, do you think a drunk 21 year old would listen?

Lets not forget what Alcohol can do to your mind, whether you're 16 or 25. It also depends on who you are as a person.

Generally speaking, a 21 year old person is mote mature than a 16 year old.

However, age cannot determine if you're allowed to drink or not. It's more about how you consume Alcohol. The best way would be to boycott the drinking age, but still not allowing minors to buy alcohol.

We can't just draw a line and say "Okay now you have crossed the line so now you can all of a sudden, start to drink." (and vice versa).

People who are under 18 can still obtain Alcohol pretty easily anyway. Something is telling me that prohibition isn't working.
