What are the chances of Jagex banning you (perm) for account Hijacking? From what I know, it's so low that you have a better chance of getting banned for macroing and not even macroing as it has to be hand-reported, then monitor the IP's correct? What does everyone think the chances are. Recently, a friends account got banned for this using a service of mine but neither of us talked on the account when it was being shared. Here's the details of the offense.

    Code:
    Evidence Type: Jagex Moderator Comment

This account has been banned for Hijacking. Jagex operates a zero tolerance policy regarding such actions.

In stealing player login details and accessing accounts without authorisation, you have not only broken RuneScape's rules but also committed an act which is illegal under real world law.

We do not discuss our detection methods, as such, no evidence will be viewable to you.

Any associated accounts will be monitored, and future instances of Hijacking, Phishing, or related offences will result in further action against your account(s). We reserve the right to pass information on persistant hijackers to law enforcement agencies.

This is even freaky for me, all advice is appreciated. And how should I come across appealing such a thing? My assumption was to just say I was keylogged, the keylogger has been removed and my computer is secure. I was not in control of the account and this was not my own fault. Opinions?

    Notes:
    -I did not scam.
-I did nothing to get reported.
-I simply got on to do the service and got off the account.
-I only do my services connected to a VPN so if something like this occurs they can un-ban the account with ease.
-No passwords or details where changed.
-I logged out of the account and did not log back in after the service.

Personally, I've never known or heard of someone that got banned for hi-jacking, so I would assume it happens in a rare occasion. The account would have to be monitored or flagged for Jagex to see this. But if they did catch it, It would result in extreme repercussions, like an IP ban.

Saying that you've been Key-Logged sounds like a good idea, there's really nothing else you can say that can overturn claims like this.

That's what I thought. I was offering a void service to him, he told me he got banned (we are friends) so I logged in to see the offense only to see that. I was prepared for something like this when I started services on Sythe in mid 09'. I have a hidden dynamic IP address that I pay for per month so when I login the account, it will appear not as a proxy but a solid dynamic IP address on the account so if it does get banned for account sharing it can easily be appealed. I never talk in-game for my services, and yet this occurrence happened.

I believe the account can be unbanned if he can prove he is the original owner correct? As long as his account is back and free from that offense that's all that matters to me. I have a policy that I'd rather have my customers satisfied than dissatisfied, so as I said as long as it gets unbanned that's all that matters to me. I can cover the legal actions if it does occur. Also, what are the chances of legal actions?

its when a accounts been hacked and they report it via email/forums they look into the case and ban any ips linked with other accounts this is mainly done via people fishing accounts.

I don't phish accounts. I do login to a lot of accounts though for services, but I do not phish or steal them. It does not make sense, maybe I was screwed over? (not by the guy, but by somebody else)

So what your saying is that his account got banned for the hijacking. From what I know, you should be safe if he does provides decent information regarding his account. Keep in touch with your friend for whom you did the service for. Maybe if he can get everything straight, you'll be off the hook. I don't see you doing anything wrong in which Jagex can make this into a serious matter. I don't think they make a RWT, or any RS related service legally, instead they might punish you by monitoring your IP and any other accounts registered on your IP. But you say that you have a hidden IP, so I don't think it can result in a big deal.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hoping that nothing goes wrong legally, and wish you the best of luck

His account got banned yes. This has never happened within the year I've had services. I asked him to gather his ISP information to prove he is the original owner (as they record IP's and hostnames involving the ISP) so it can be unbanned. I doubt this can come into a legal offense, but you never know. A 'hidden' IP is basically a private network I have joint with, it's nothing special but it does hide that my own location as when you check the last logged in IP it will view the VPN's IP/Hostname apposed from mine and if they trace it then it will go to the VPN's information. Though, if they get serious about this they can trace back from my order information and the law can get in touch with me. That is if they take it in a serious offense. If they are not that serious, and scanned the location of the IP to monitor that then it should be no big deal.

    And thanks for the support.

I wouldn't worry about legal issues- it'd be such a hard case to prove for a relatively minor crime. Jagex technically owns all the accounts so really the cash value would be a months membership so 6 bucks which is just a DP charge.

The threat of litigation is just to scare people off.

I don't really have any idea what to say for the appeal though- I think they just use an automated system for reviewing them.

Doesn't this mean that your friend asked for other people's password?
So your friend try'd to hijack other peoples account from that account? Or IP (note that jagex saves files on ur pc, so changin ip wouldn't really help).

And stealing accounts is against the law (if the accounts are binded to a credit card, or maybe even if they are member)

You don't understand, I was offering a service so the password is required so I can complete the purchase. I did not steal the account, after the service was finished I did not login past that time. I did not scam anyone, he can also post for proof that I have not scammed him. This is not a matter of scamming, it's a matter of Jagex did a rare monitor on the account while I was doing the service. This rarely happens I suppose, that's why I'm asking for advice. I helped him with the appeal and got it revised by an English major. Hopefully it will get unbanned. But the point is what is the chance of this occurring?

It's not an IP ban. IP bans are extremely rare. But this is not the case.

I'm pretty sure you won't have any legal issues, if you did you could just get the guy to say that he let you on the account.. Which he did. So you haven't broken any laws, you didn't steal or anything.

I guess all you can do is hope the appeal goes through.

I'm saying that the mass-amount of accounts I've previously had access too can be clarified as 'Hijacking' since I have services here on Sythe. Since I do login a lot of accounts for services a week, this could be why. That's why.

You do know that Hijacking means installing worms/trojans and use those to Spam&Flood?

Depends on the method of Hijacking. But this is not the case, nobody Hijacked me and I never Hijacked him. Therefore it's a false justification.

We regret to inform you that this account has been banned as a result of password scamming and gaining items via account hijacking.

Our detection systems show this account trading with at least one other account that was hijacked at the time of the trade.

We do not discuss our detection processes.

You have been deemed to have been in complete control at the time of the incident.

Have this on one of my accounts

    ::Edit::

Story behind this account was my cousin shared accounts with a guy, the guy went rogue and changed the passwords on both accounts and my cousin guessed the passwords and then used my account as a middleman for the accounts to trade onto a level 3.

I wonder how jagex possibly can detect if you are using alot of accounts or not.

They probably noticed allot of activity from your PC, and think you hijacked the accounts that you give service to.

    EDIT
    The picture above me said:
'as a result of password scamming and gaining items via account hijacking'
Proves my first post on this thread.

Here's the thing, no passwords where changed, no details where changed, no items where taken off the account. I only got him full void and I never logged back in and this occurred which confuses me as I never Hijacked him.
