How to tell if somebody is lying to you.

This guide uses common behavior to help you see through a person's lie.

The average human being tells 4 lies every day. There is no way to detect every lie that somebody tells. If you are a keen observer, and know how somebody usually acts, there are red flags that you can watch out for. I will list 10 of these red flags on here to help you tell is somebody is lying.

1) Eye contact.
If somebody who normally make eye contact with you throughout a conversation stops all of a sudden. If somebody who never makes eye contact and starts staring you down while you are conversing with them.

2) Body Language.
If someone normally uses a lot of body language and stops all of a sudden. If somebody never uses body language and starts using it to emphasize a point that they are being challenged on.

3) Restating your questions.
When you ask somebody a yes or no question and they restate your question instead of just saying "yes" or "no".

4) Reaction time.
People who are lying tend to get defensive. What happens when someone gets defensive is, they answer questions right as you ask them it. Their brains process the information faster.

5) The person wants to leave.
If someone wants to get out of the conversation really quickly. This applies especially when you can find out if they are lying or not.

6) Scratching themselves.
If someone starts scratching their nose really often. People get itchy when they get paranoid.

7) Looking over their shoulder.
If someone is right handed, and they are lying, they tend to look over their LEFT shoulder. If someone is left handed, and they are lying, they tend to look over their RIGHT shoulder. This is a sign of them being paranoid.

8) Expressions.
If their expressions don't match what they are saying. If they say "I love you" and they are frowning, it is a sign of them lying.

9) They only have expression on their mouth.
People who are lying tend to only show expression on their mouth. If they are smiling, and their eyes look worried, they might be lying.

10) Contractions.
When people lie, they tend to not use contractions. Instead of saying "I didn't do it" they would say "I did NOT do it", putting emphasis on the "NOT".

These are just signs of people lying. You have to be able to put them together. If they only do one of these things, there is a high chance they are not lying.

You also have to compare these to their normal behavior. If they are like this all the time, they might not be lying.

You should also add that they pretend to be affronted at you when you ask so many questions. But they still won't make eye contact.

This is a great guide. Maybe add some more pictures on the facial expressions of people. If you can find any, that is. Also, I'd suggest centering the text. And use more colors. Good guide 9/10

I don't know how advanced you are at telling if someone is lying, but there are also a few relatively simple things you left out.
1. Eyes darting vs Eyes wandering
2. People deep in thought stare into the distance on their right side, as people making up a lie usually look to their left side. This is somewhat related to #7 and not entirely true but is a good general tip.

Decent guide, I would say the posted information is applicable to 90% of people who lie. I myself am a fabulous lier, and can easily get away with IRL lying most of the time. You should expand the guide to include methods of knowing if people are lying on the internet, as that might be more practical. Nice effort though.

 

That would pretty much make it a how to not get scammed guide though.

Good guide, Enjoyed reading it, thanks for it. Good use of colours, font size is reasonable as well. Also people tend to itch the back of their head a lot when lying, as I subconsciously do this. The only improvement is perhaps add more pictures with facial expressions, pictures of like, someone frowning, then smiling on that point. Good guide overall though.
