Why do all the newfags to Runescape call merchanting 'flipping'?

I mean, come on. Call it what it is. You buy something low, sell it high. That's called merchanting. Since the GE came out, this gay term has been around. It may just be me and a few others, but I am just EXTREMELY sick of seeing people call it that.

The reason I say it's all the new people is because on Rsbots.net all the players that have been around since ~04 call it merchanting, and all the people that feel good because they joined in 2008 call it flipping.

Sorry, just annoyed.

How are they different?

 

Merchanting is were you buy a item low price then resell at high in grand exchange, but flipping is you buy a item then you wait in till the prices rises then sell them for more.

'Flipping' is the same thing as merchanting. You buy low sell high.

Flipping is a part or branch, if you will, of merchanting.

Flipping is buying something for low and selling it for higher than you bought it WITHOUT holding onto it.

Merchanting is buying items and holding onto them in hope that they will raise in price.

Flipping is a part of merchanting.

Merchanting has Long-term investment, short-term, and flipping.

Flipping is usually done within one G.E. Update. You buy an item low, and sell high.

Short term is done for about a week/item.

You buy an item, wait until it rises, and then sell.

Long term is done over well, the long term. An example is buying a rare because you know it will eventually go up.


In the old days of runescape, everything was the same because there was no redefined "Price" that you had to sell at or buy at.

 

It's actually been called flipping from 02-04/05, merching from 05-08...than the game died and the GE merchs call it flipping.

So, you're wrong. In the very first guides about making runescape money (like buying runes from the shops after an update and such) it's always been called flipping.

Why do the newfags not know that it was originally called flipping?

Merchanting falls into 3 categories...


1-) Flipping (usually done several times a day)
2-) Short term investments (usually consists of "wave items" 3-6 ge updates)
3-) Long term investments (rares, etc etc)
