    Classic Rock

Note: This isn't a debate over which music genre is the best. This is simply for discussing classic rock and its legacy.

Hello everyone. Classic Rock's exact spectrum of Rock genres is undecided, but I'll allow it to cover most Rock genres for the purposes of discussion. That is: Early Folk/Country Rock (such as Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly) to Pop-Rock (like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones) to Hard Rock (such as Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin and The Who) to Progressive & Glam Rock (including such acts as Pink Floyd, Rush, The Doors, KISS, Def Leppard and Queen)

Also, stolen from my Meet the Staff thread, my own musical tastes:

AC-DC, Aerosmith, Bad Company, Beach Boys, Billy Idol, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Bob Seger, Bon Jovi, Boston, Cream, CCR, David Bowie, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Eagles, Elton John, Elvis Presley, Guns N' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Journey, Foreigner, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, Queen, Rush, Scorpions, Santana, Smash Mouth, Steve Miller Band, Sting & Police, Supertramp, Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, The Who, Tom Petty, Van Halen, Styx

Another few classic bands go as the Misfits. I don't know if you would count Metallica, or slayer as classic bands. They were more modern.

Yes, I did comment on your last.fm with this; but I'm really baffled as to why The Clash are not on that list of yours.

I've always listened to classic rock. My dad used to play it to me when I was a kid. I like most of the bands you've listed.

However, I can't stand Queen or The Beatles, call me narrow minded or whatever, all their songs sound exactly the same..

Metallica is the furthest into rock/metal I'll let it go. For the most part, though, anything made between 1955 and 1989 (or material made today by bands that were active then, such as AC/DC) that fits the 'Rock' bill can be discussed here.

    A few songs.

    I think they're obnoxious.

They just are. They're loud and whiny, and remind me way too much of some of today's 16-year-old poprock stars.

Lol at the coincidence of me just having bought a Joe Strummer Telecaster yesterday, and finding his name on Sythe.org the next.

OT: The thread's name is "Classic Rock" but however, Quite a few of those bands can not be listed as rock IMO.

and on the other side, what is rock and what is not?
what is metal and what is not.

Will music like "Nirvana" be listed as Alternative, Grunge, Rock or even as Hard rock.

Music genres are to vague these days.

No, I don't play any instruments. I'm interested in learning Bass or Guitar as a hobby sometime, though.

Also, I love all of those except perhaps grateful dead, I just forgot about 'em. Added. :D
