One of the best teachers in our school has been arrested

I don't think the police would arrest him based on false evidence. Great guy or not, he willingly broke the law and by the sounds of it he is a hardcore pedophile.
Why should a pedophile be relieved of those charges and get to go back to teaching children?

guineapigcal, what makes you think he is a "hardcore" pedophile? :S There is no evidence to suggest he's approached anybody with motives described.

 

I can't say I have any opinion on that specific instance, but if solid proof arises and he IS proven to be a pedophile, then regardless of his teaching ability he should be put behind bars.
This is actually VERY coincidental, because just recently (about 2 months ago) my childhood primary teacher was convicted and charged with pedophilia - the guy actually was a GREAT teacher and played a huge role in who I am as a person today. It was quite shocking really, for someone to be such an influential figure in your life and then suddenly a disgusting secret comes out... it messes you up a little.

 

As usual, the media will proclaim him guilty whether or not he did anything and his career will be ruined.

There are far worse things in the world than looking at child pornography, get over yourself.

last summer the same happened to one of my teachers at my private school. except he was sleeping with freshman boys.. NO saw it coming and he was the most liked guy on campus. i know what you are going through, but from my experience, remember the guy how you knew him, and if found guilty, then you can change your mind about him.

He more than deserved this, glad he is away from schools now.

I felt the same way, when my 8th grade History teacher inspired me to do so much, I went from a 1.5GPA to a 3.7GPA throughout all of my highschool. I've done so much better thanks to his unique teachings, and how violence, and physical harm wasn't the answer. Then to find out he pistol whipped somebody at Wal-Mart almost killed me inside. I still live up to his words, even if they may have been useless to him, and now I'm inspired, and do what I do to this day, thanks to him.

 

IF he was a good teacher, he would not be dealing in the trafficking of child pornography. He may have revolutionized teaching, however, he knowingly broke the law, and abused his position for his benefit.
I see the full extent of the law, and fully support it.

 

That's exactly how I feel about this kind of thing. He can't help his sexual prefrences, if he isn't doing anything that is harming others e.g molesting children, then there is no problem. What he does in his spare time is not the laws or anyone elses problem, only his own, provided it does not have any negative effect on anyone else.

 

What a shame, when caught with child pornography what happens to you? Are you deemed a sex offender?

 

Well it's illegal, some might say if someone is capable of committing this crime, they will have the motivation to do something on a bigger degree with children. However this isn't the case for everyone, as this person seems like a great guy and has helped a lot of people.

It's just fetish's of things, people enjoy watching things like that of a younger generation, it's private like you said and probably a small minute take it on a further degree. It happened in my school, the teacher got sacked, and banned from working with kids for the rest of his life. Even though they had no evidence of committing a serious crime, he was just looking on the internet. It's just like a teacher getting sacked for smoking a joint, no harm done to anyone else, like you said.

Sorry for the wall of text, people just frustrate me when they are so presumptions on people, just because they look at pornography of someone of a younger age, no harm done they think that they are pedophiles even though they probably havn't done anything bad to anyone.

 

At worst, he should be kept from children if guilty. Maybe he should teach at colleges.
