Opinions on 'Display Names'

Due to this update, all rare names will be in a continuous circulation.
For instance Cowcat69 changes his username to Cow,he then quits. 2,000 days later someone else gets "Cow".

How do you guys feel about this?

 

It's kind of annoying logging on and not recognizing any of my friends names.

Overall I think it's good to put some good names back in the game.

If I could choose though I would have voted no display name update.

 

Same I would have voted no.. seeing good names isn't as fun as it used to be.

 

I hate display names, they shit me off.
I don't play runescape much, i'll play it for like 1 month every 6 months. So ofcourse, i'll go on, and not recognise a single person in my whole friend list because they've all changed their names etc. Its so frustrating!!

 

Hate them, almost as much as I hate the new hitting system and health point system.

 

Exactly..you don't know who's who. After X amount of time ( i'll find out ) their is no symbol allowing you to know the person's last display name. It's so dumb.

 

I just dont like the fact of the big green arrow on ur friends list after 2 weeks it should go away.

 

I think it disappears after someone else takes your previous display name.

 

I don't mind the hitting / health point system that much to be honest.
However the display names seriously need to be fixed.
I think that:
- Your account's original display name should always be seen when it says "last known as" on your Friends' List. So if your name was Bobjimmy, and you change it to Bobjimmy1...it should say Bobjimmy1--last known as Bobjimmy--
-"If your account has not logged in for 2,000+ days the account's display name is up for grabs." Seeing a 'rare name' used to be a big event, many people used to even screenie.. but now 'rare names' are becoming so common and due to this update always shall be...thus killing the whole concept of a 'rare name'

If those two things were made possibly, I'd say display names weren't such a bad idea.

 

So lets say i create a new account with my old name that little arrow will dissapear?

 

I don't believe that's true.
If my original account's name was Jim and I changed it to Jim1..Jim wouldn't be available to take until another 30 days when I switch my display name,Jim1, to Jim2.
Another way for "Jim" to be available after I switch it to Jim2 is waiting 'X' amount of time.. I believe its 2-4 months.

Dang, okay that little arrow is just one of those things in particular that annoy the mess out of me.
Solution: after u talk (pm) to all ur friends the arrow dissapears thats logical enough.

 

The arrow imo is good because you have 60-180 days for everyone who you keep in contact with to know who you are for certain.
I would like the arrow more if it permanently stayed and says 'last known as (original account name)' rather than 'last known as (last display name)'

Common four letter word, last known as three letter? Pretty awesome in my opinion.

 

But now all of the people who knew you as i.e. Boo49 now don't even know who you are. If they quit for a few months and then decided to come back how would it be possible for them to contact you?

 

The only people I really talk to on my friends list are my IRL friends. If I change my name, I'd tell 'em. If they changed theirs, they'd tell me.

 

Yeah, it's kind of unfair, but those are the rules. Jagex should reduce it to like 180 days at least. 6 months is enough time.
