How to password-protect a file using WinRar.

Introduction.

A big thank you to Sindre for helping me decide on what topic to write for my next guide. Today, I'm here with a guide on how to password-protect files using a nifty little program called WinRar. Please enjoy and if you have any constructive criticism or feedback regarding this guide, please post it below.

Step 1.

If you don't already have WinRar, you're going to have to download it here.

I suggest choosing the "WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.93" download as the 64 bit may be too much for your computer. After downloading, install as usual.

Step 2.

Create a folder with a title of your choosing and make sure the file you'd like to protect is inside as shown in the picture below.



Step 3.

Right click the file and select "Add to archive" as shown in the picture.



Step 4.

A pop-up box will be shown. Click the "Advanced" tab and click "Set password".



Step 5.

Enter the password of your choosing and click "OK". After that, click "OK" again.



Step 6.

Now, there will be a new file on your desktop that looks like this:



Open it and you'll see the file that is password-protected.



Step 7.

Double click it and you'll see a box like this:



You now know that your file is password-protected. Only people who know the correct password can open it and read the contents.

Extra note: If you click "Encrypt file names" as seen in step 5, the WHOLE .rar file becomes encrypted. Not just the one file. It's so people need the password to the the file names too. Not just the file content.
