Help switching java versions in ubuntu

Does anyone know how to switch default java versions in ubuntu?

When I go to the terminal and type

    java -version

    i get:

    java version "1.6.0_18"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8) (6b18-1.8-0ubuntu1)
OpenJDK Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)

That needs to be Java 6 for nexus to run.

My problem is when I type

    sudo update-alternatives --config java

    I get:

There is only one alternative in link group java: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java
    Nothing to configure.

I think thats the version I want, which it claims is the only one, but it isn't the default? Anyone know what to do?

Java 1.6 is the same thing as Java 6. The version numbers are strange.

You should be fine with what you have.
