    RuneScape: Bandwidth hogs?

Recently got my VPS set up for botting (took long enough) and botting on only one account (VPS = Linux Debian 5.0 x82, 1gb/ram 1gb burstable, 1.5ghz/processor, 100mb/s, 1tb bandwidth p/month) and noticed that my bandwith within a hour and a half judging by the bot and the time running went up between 1-2 gigs. I was monitoring the account on a mule account just to view it off the VNC viewer, and it looked like it was running faster than my own PC (mainly because I run a lot of programs at once which causes the bot to lag) though it does not justify how my bandwidth shot up from 1.25 gig to 3.44 gig in a matter of 30 min - 45 min (including setting up the bot)

Any advice on how to make it less bandwidth intensive or what this could be? Because 1 - 2 gig in 30 minutes seems outrageous for such a game as well as knowing I only get a terabyte a month (1,000GB). It used to never be so expensive on bandwidth usage, but maybe they changed something.

    Note:
-All graphical options are on low/off.
-Do NOT say anything about the 'service' as the service is better than stated.
-I am not connected to my terminal (ex. PuTTy) nor VNC viewer.

Runescape is definitely not the cause.
The game hardly uses bandwith think about 100MB per week max....no matter what.
So i would contact the help deks of the VPS provider if i were you.

Asking under the support desk. Though could you both explain a bit more about your VPS? As in what viewer do you use, possible settings, or what this could really be? Because you both seem to know something that I don't.

Maybe VNC viewer is the source of your bandwidth problems. Other than that, even though you've said "Don't say the service," I'd say it's your host ripping you off.

Why don't you try this out: http://nethogs.sourceforge.net/

I only state don't state the service mainly because I get a lot of "why did you choose this? It's crap" when I've had no problems with the VPS before besides running the game. I'll check out NetHogs, thanks.

Note: VNC viewer was not running when I was monitoring the server. The bot ran fine, just a lot of bandwidth use.

Chippz0r, I'd also recommend downloading any one of the generic bandwidth monitors for Linux and checking out the total it tells you vs. what the host tells you. I don't know if nethogs will monitor your total bandwidth over a period of time or if it is per process only, but it's useful to find out if it's java that's the cause of your bandwidth load. If it is significantly different bring it up to the host in a support ticket. Take screenshots and threaten to release the pics and bad news about the host on the net if they can't resolve the issue for you.
