    My emotional inconsistency.

My title pretty much sums it up, really. It all started a few years back when I noticed I didn't really show any emotions whatsoever. The only real good example I can remember of this is when my grandmother died. Most people would be quite upset, I wasn't. Well, I was deep down, although I didn't show it, and I didn't feel it. Plus, it's not as if we didn't get on - we were very close. However, over the past few weeks it's become the complete opposite. Now, I feel as if I am feeling too strongly about a certain thing. To explain things a bit clearer, I've gone from having no emotions (generally speaking, not literally) to feeling guilty/upset/etc over everything. For example. there was a fight at my school a few weeks back. I was there when it took place, and immediately after the first punch was thrown, I felt as if it was all my fault. I felt guilty and very upset. At times it's even to the extent that I feel very bad at myself for calling someone a "noob".

This probably sounds pathetic, but it's starting to bug me as I'm getting upset really easily, which is very much unlike me. The only reasoning behind this is because when I used to "feel nothing", I tried too hard to feel guilty/upset/etc so now it's done the reverse of what I wanted.

Advice/stories and such would be highly appreciated.

May I ask how old you are? This kind of thing happens a lot during adolescence.

    This.
It's possible you're experiencing severe mood-swings. Most of the time, this is natural and will go away or lessen by itself. However, if you're really worried about it, talk to your parents and a psychologist.

I'm sixteen. I know that this sort of thing happens during adolescence however this is much more severe than it's ever been before.

    Thanks for your replies, though.

Do you use drugs? Certain drugs can cause this. Especially when mixed with certain medicines or alcohol. If you don't mind telling us, what medicines do you take/drugs.

If you dont take any drugs or anything... perhaps a mood stabilizer would help you, but you'd have to talk to your doctor whether this could be fixed without using medications or not.

Drug abuse is a problem; prescription drug abuse is another.

While excessive prescriptions is an issue wholly unlike the two, the reason substances are scheduled are because they have a potential of abuse, incredible harm in large doses, or simply they have no therapeutic value.

At some point of the 20th century, America fell into a mindset where the protocol was
if get sick => visit doctor => take pills => healthy again

Any medication in any doses is harmful, although most are considered safe to be sold over the counter. Based on a few narrative paragraphs and the admission the poster is 16 and, you are already suggesting mood stablizers. This encourages drug-seeking patient behaviour and it perpetuates that erroneous mindset.

You take a sedative pill, it does not introduce sleep to you, they either amplify the sleeping mechanisms or reduce the stay-awake functions. There isn't any drug to take to "fix up" all the past drugs you've taken. Homeostasis is altered and, in some cases permanently.

Very often people believe there is always a magical drug, surgery, a trial treatment of some sort that'll miraculous absolve you of all your bad choices.

Please consider what you say carefully, sixteen year olds lack the experience to have distinction of good/bad advice.

For me medications was the last source. Obviously taking meds is not for everyone but he can be given antidepressants which have no recreational/abuse potential. A lot of people benefit from them.
