If Americans illegally emigrate to Canada, will they celebrate our holidays?

Today at school, we had a mexican lunch (Quesidillas, Spanish Rice, etc.) stuff that I have never seen on a lunch menu in my entire 13 years of school.
We had a lot of the teachers wearing sombreros, and some of the teachers threw a party.
We had an announcement to wish everybody a happy Cinco de Mayo.

This is America. I honestly don't care about some war that the Mexicans won 148 years ago. We don't even celebrate September 3rd, the date the Revolutionary War was officially ended in 1783, yet we celebrate a Mexican holiday annually.

Just because cultures intermingle so closely because of illegal immigration doesn't mean that we have to celebrate their holidays that have nothing to do with us. Imagine many Americans fleeing to Canada for some reason, would you expect them to celebrate Independence Day?

    What do you think?

This is America. You need to get used to a high population of Hispanic Americans and Mexicans living in this country, and enjoy their food.

And, no, I would not expect Canadians to celebrate Independence Day, but I would expect many of the Americans to.

Cinco De Mayo in America isn't even really about them winning their Independence.

It's just another excuse for Americans to go out and drink.

"Americans" do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo because of illegal Mexican immigrants. They celebrate it due a large number of Hispanic inhabitants.
As much as many Americans would like it to be, it is not yet a successful melting pot society, and so the mosaic culture still shines through. The celebration originates with the Hispanic and Mexican population in the culture, and it is continued through the country due to open minded people.

No one is forcing you to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.

You don't have to care about the holiday. In fact, you don't have to celebrate anything. You're more then welcome to go and sit in the corner. ;)

It's a harmless (and tasty) holiday that is based on American soil. I see nothing wrong with allowing people to express their feelings(or lack of, in your case) on celebrations.

Just another excuse to eat delicious food and get wasted. Trust me, half the retards who celebrate it don't even know where, when, or what happened on cinco de mayo and probably don't care. Kinda sad.

Why do they automatically have to be illegal? I'm sure many legal Mexican immigrants celebrate this holiday too.

I don't see you complaining about Chinese New Year. It's just as big, if not bigger, than Cinco de Mayo and many Americans celebrate it along with Chinese-Americans.

My thoughts: Just another day to eat good food and get wasted.

I think you need just need to accept it, no matter how much divulging you do in this subject, it won't ever change. Now i know this was just a simplequestion though, but iI don't see anything wrong with another culture.

The same goes for Christmas, Easter, Anzac Day or Guy Fawkes night. It's just a holiday, you can choose to make of it whatever you wish to.
