So long as he doesn't attempt to trade with anyone, I'm fine with the unban.

Take this into the staff lounge if you want, although I doubt some mods will agree.

 

Just to set an example, I banned his account. Watch harped post here within the hour.

 

I highly doubt a thread will even be created in the staff-forum discussing the unban of Harped just "because he'll continue to evade"... he's broken a site rule, gotten himself banned, and they aren't going to unban him because him evading is annoying.

I think this is just going to continue to be a viscous cycle of ban, new account, ban, new account...

 

I suppose there is no way to keep him out then. So we just let the viscous cycle continue?

 

I suppose they will. It's not my time that's being wasted banning him, it's yours.

I'm assuming one of those two guests is Harped. You can't stop him unless you do something about him IRL, which I highly doubt.

 

Someone go to his house.

What do you want moderators to do exactly? Ban him? Then what? He'll make another one. Who gives a fuck? All he does is troll anyway.

 

I think you're referring to a dynamic IP. Static means constant and non-changing. The average private IP is a dynamic IP. Static IPs are usually only used for websites and businesses. Between dynamic IPs and proxies it can become quite troublesome for the management of a site to keep out less than favorable visitors, but there is another alternative.

I do not know how viable or obtainable it would be through Sythe's current setup, but perhaps the administration needs to look into MAC banning. This is a technique that, instead of banning the dynamic IP of the individual, which can be quite bothersome, the MAC address (Media Access Control) is banned. Unlike an IP address, which can be dynamic, your MAC address does not have natural ways of changing. It is a unique hardware id number, specific to the computer you are on. The MAC address is generally derived from ones Wireless Adapter or Network card. You are essentially banning the computer from accessing the site until another Network Adapter is purchased and installed in the computer.

There are ways around MAC bannings including simply changing what computer you are using or something as advanced as MAC spoofing, but the former has limits (the number of computers you have) and the latter can be quite difficult. Also, it is notable to add that most programs that allow you to spoof your MAC address have a cost appended to them and are not available as freeware.

I honestly don't know. I suppose there is nothing we can do to make him leave.

 

Someone show him 4chan and teach him to make a tripcode that way he can seek his identity, the only real reason for not trolling anonymously. He's chasing some sort of notoriety through his trolling. He uses the same name every time because he's hoping that people will recognize that it's him and think "he's so cool, what a rebel". The fact of the matter is, he isn't even a good troll, he's a wet-mouthed re-re. Not even mediocre.

As you can probably see, my grasp on the concept is somewhat primitive...
I'm not sure how viable the idea of "MAC banning" would be, or even if it's possible with the current site set up, but the idea should DEFINITELY be put forward to Sythe himself- as it could actually provide a solution to MANY problematic members now and in the future.

EDIT: As you seem to have a much more clear idea of what MAC Banning is, I would actually encourage you to post something in the Suggestions forum regarding the matter.

 

Basically your banning any name with harped.
Without harped in it theirs no proof it's him.
Why not block the name harped in any username.
I'm sure it's possible in VB.

It would make spotting him much harder. And he could use alternatives like "h@rp3d" and such. It would be too much trouble.

I guess we'll just have to move on. There isn't a point ranting and suggesting ways on how to get Harped to go away when he has no intention of doing so.

 

But if he's so desperate to be unbanned why's he calling himself Harped.
He's just messing with the forum, he doesn't really care.
He's proving that the Ban system doesn't work.

 

Banning the word "Harped" from any username is not a viable option, nor very logical.
He makes account names similar to the word "Harped" so that other members know it's him when he posts...

As Giddy said, he's just troll who posts in the spam forum/feedback threads and keeps coming back for some reason. If he wanted to properly ban evade he could've by now, but he seems to enjoy making tons of accounts so there's not much we can do.
