What should the government do with marijuana?

  1. LEGALIZE IT

    66.5%
  2. decriminalize it

    13.2%
  3. keep that junk illegal

    20.3%

    Legalization of marijuana

people need to realize that once weed is legal, the townsfolk aren't just going to burst out of their houses and all go start a lifelong smoking habit. the legality of marijuana usually doesn't effect a users choice at all, meaning pretty much everyone who wants to smoke pot, already is.
when it becomes legal its not going to change that much, the number of smokers should stay about the same, and the dealers should too since there's no increased demand. so really, weed being illegal isn't stopping shit. most stoners don't even care that its illegal, and the only reason we really want it legalized is to make everyone shut the fuck up.
hopefully once its legalized all the fucking stupid rednecks living in jesusland will stop trying to call weed bad
yes, that includes you morons on this thread trying to say marijuana has a SINGLE bad aspect.

That's a dumb-ass assumption. What major industry that has to do with consuming a product gives "Grade A" product? Quality will be sacrificed for quantity and efficiency, as it always has.

Also, I'm against Marijauna being legalized. Maybe you're not all informed, when you smoke weed, THC goes straight to the brain, screwing around with your Cannabinoid Receptors, impairing your movemtn, coordination, and other high-priority cognitive function. So for sayyyyy, 1-3 hours, assuming you smoked it, you can't function at 100%.

And if I'm not mistaken, doesn't Marijuana 50%(atleast) more carcinogens than tobacco smoke. + the enzyme (whatever the freaking name is) that converts hydrocarbons into a carcinogenic form, that in the end, produce intensely malignant cells.

There's also many other factors that I'd consider to be a crutial point in keeping the drug illegal. Gateway Drug. As of 2008, 65% of all adults who used weed before they were 15 years old tried cocaine in their lives, 65%... really... The percent that have done cocaine that didn't do weed before they were 15 is 0.6%.

Let's get real, the stats are there... for some reason you have it drilled into your heads that it's not unhealthy.

The profit goes down so much that the risk of dealing is just not worth it. No more need for growers and growers when you can get some down the street legally. Dealers will drop. Have you ever heard of someone dealing alcohol/cigarettes? The closest thing I can relate to is having someone go into the shop for me and getting it, but that is in no sense of the word "dealing".

The gateway theory is wrong. 1/100 marijuana users is a cocaine user and less than 1/100 is a heroin user. This leads me to beleive that 99 users who want a stronger high will buy some danker marijuana.

It has to be affordable. One of the main reasons people want it to be legalized is that crime will suffer. You can't charge $200 for something that has already been sold at $100 for years and expect the problem to go away, just because it's legal.

We'll just have to wait and see what Cali comes up with.

And? When I smoke I don't have to be functioning at 100%.

The regular consumption of marijuana doesn't cause any diseases.

Lies. 1/100 users go on to do cocaine.

Don't know where you're getting your stats from but they're wrong. Marijuana is safer than alcohol, which doesn't make it healthy but it's a hell of a lot better for you than what we have on the market now.

Assuming you're sitting at home smoking, and sitting at home after smoking, sure. However, you do need to be functioning at 100% to be driving, and working in some cases.

You're consuming 50% more carcinogens than you are when smoking cigarettes dude. Also, I never directly said it would cause diseases, however, it will cause production of malignant cells, as I just said.

    Some from these sites:
    http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/content/who-are-you-us-government-statistics-adult-marijuana-users
    http://www.nhtsa.gov/people/injury/research/job185drugs/cannabis.htm

Couple other I've read up on, I could find them if you're really interested. Also, don't just say those sites are all anti-drug and that's the only reason they say things like that. I've heard a lot of people say that, it's dumb.

Yeah, and getting caught while driving under the influence of marijuana would get you a DUI, same as alcohol. Moving on.

    Agreed.

Just seeing the usage stats there, nothing on the gateway theory.

    1) I agree, companies will sacrifice quality for quantity, as well as add harmful chemicals to make it more addictive.

    2) THC doesn't go straight to the brain, it causes more dopamine (a neurotransmitter) to be released to the aforementioned canibinoid receptors. There have been many studies I have read (and yes, I did read studies both in a University library, as well as online) and all of them have stated a non-lethal release of dopamine. This, coupled by the fact that most extreme users smoke maybe 6-8 joints a day, makes it relatively safer than cigarettes, where the extreme may exceed two packs a day.
Also, if you didn't know before, everything that causes you pleasure, i.e sex, eating, etc., releases dopamine, just at differing levels.

    3) I mostly agree with you but you should read my cigarette users vs. pot users argument in the above paragraph.

    4) Many people have tried cocaine without previous use of Marijuana. Also, stating that people that have tried cocaine in their lives because of Marijuana is a foolish comparison. I could easily create a stat claiming that 95% of water drinkers have tried alcohol once in their lives. This is mostly true, but drinking water most likely did not cause someone to try alcohol. The same argument for cocaine. Furthermore, your stat does not claim hard usage of cocaine, only that they have tried it. I know many people that have tried cocaine, but did not continue its use.

And yes, I frequently use, and sometimes smoke, Marijuana.

To the individuals making the "driving while high" excuse:

Cigarettes are much worse for you than marijuana... They are filled with all kinds of junk and tar, unlike weed. Imo weed is healthy ;)

Either you're just a troll or an idiot who believes everything he's told.

Make it addictive? They won't do that. As for produce, where's the guarantee that the people growing it will grow poor grade cannabis in large amounts? Small time growers now have no problem growing a garden of some of the most potent strains available, imagine what could be accomplished on an industrial scale.

They would have no need to make it addictive.... And if they started mass producing/growing, they would still be able to grow potent marijuana just on a much larger scale.

It should have never been illegal in the first place. Shame on our goverment for passing a ludicrous law based on propaganda and racism.

You are 100% right, BUT the catch. Marijuana smokers typically smoke on weekends, as a "party" drug. Even heavy weed smokers smoke only about once a day. Cigarette smokers smoke about a pack a day on average. I'm not sure how many cigarettes are in a pack but I think it's 12 a pack.

    You can do the math.

Why not? Cigarette companies have been doing it for ages, why not the newly founded Marijuana mass-producers? It can be argued that, because Marijuana is easily grown, companies won't need to add addictive chemicals. But major companies only care about profits, and to ensure profits from customers, they get them hooked.

Cigarette companies don't add an extra ingredient to get people hooked. It's a natural ingredient in tobacco.
