I'm thinking about taking some. I run track and play basketball. I'm currently 16, a sophomore in high school. I'm 6 foot tall, and weigh 156. I can dunk, so I have a good vertical, and I run pretty fast, ok really fast. I don't want this to ruin my athleticness I have, but I want to bulk up a bit. Do you guys think I should? Any suggestions would be helpful.

    I assume you mean creatine...

It's not a magic bulking powder you know. Taking it won't immediately transform you into the hulk and make you lose your speed.

All creatine does is allow you to work your muscles for longer, it is the amount of calories you consume that will affect whether you gain mass or not.

It's not recommended to be taken before 18 because teens tend to have an extra quantity of it. However I'm 17 and am considering taking it also. As long as you stick to the recommended dosages you should be fine. Use it for 8 weeks then go off it for 4 weeks, because taking it further than that could cause damage.

Just hit the gym dude. Don't take the chance of risking it. It's easy to bulk up in the gym these days.

It takes 3 months of commitment though. Creatine does change your mental state too. Some days I don't feel like going and I really have to push myself, whereas a friend of mine always feels pumped and ready to go because of the creatine.

I used to be sort of a gym rat before I got into MMA, Ill try and give you some more info.

Creatine is a substance found and produced in small doses naturally in your body. It essentially gives your body more ATP (the fuel the mitocondria in your cells use when they do work), so you can do something harder and longer. Creatine does nothing for you outside of that.

What this does, is it allows your body to work/lift at a a higher pace than normal, for a bit longer than normal. Creatine will not makke you bigger, or make you gain weight, or anything. It is the effects of being able to work out harder that do that. If you use creatine well, then yes you will see significant increases.

Creatine is not for everyone. Some people have an adverse affect to it, and it can damage your kidneys. Here are a few tips I recomend if considering creatine.

-Do you have a solid foundational base built up? You want to have been lifting or working out for a good 2 months before starting on a creatine regimen, otherwise it can harm your body.

-Do some research on proper cycling. This varies for everyone. I typically do 6 week cycles, with a loading and de-loading phase at the start and end of each cycle.

-Lastly, do to the effect that excess creatine can have on the kidneys, make sure you drink 2-3x the amount of water you typically drink, so that your body stays hydrated and has enough fluid to remove the byproducts produced by the creatine.

Feel free to ask for clarification on anything.

It doesn't take that long. It depends whether you know what you are doing, and if you have an effective fitness plan.

Been taking it on and off for a year, it does nothing (visible) to your mental state. It won't help you THAT much for bulking up as you need both diet and exercise for good results.

It's dirt cheap for pure creatine (5$ a month tops) but superpump 250 gives amazing results. With superpump I worked out everyday at least an hour a day and was not tired. Don't waste your money on NO explode.

Do it up if you have the money, i'd recommend eating better as well (high carbs and protein, no pop, avoid sugars, lots of meat)

I'm 5 10 and went from 120-180lbs in two years, at first I couldn't bench 120 now I rep 180, so yes this works.

plznate you usually put on 5-10 pounds within 6 weeks of taking creatine and will shed most of it when you come off it.

he's 6 feet under 160 pounds and athletic, the answer is no for build =p

You will gain weight, yes, but not because of the creatine, it will be due to the increased muscle mass gains you got from working out harder. The only weight you lose when you come off should be from the smaller amount of water required ; )

And ya similiar story for me, when I started lifting I weighed 105 pounds and couldnt bench 135. Now I am 145 and max 240. (I am 5'7).

Yeah, sorry for the mistype. I don't wanna be a huge hulk, I just want to get some more muscle...

Yeah, as I said I'm not looking to be insanely ripped, I just want some more muscle.
I have been starting to lift more, I'm just looking to this as some extra "oomf" to go along with it.

    Exactly

I don't drink pop as it is. I eat really healthy, but in large quantities.

That's the goal, maybe not quite as much increase, but still some. Thanks for your help/suggestions.

What I do since I dont use creatine is eat protein bars because as a wrestler, I shouldn't be putting creatine in my water to drink as it would add to my weight as it stores itself as water weight. If you don't end up taking creatine or think it will affect your athleticism, then take protein shakes and protein bars before and after working out. You will see a significant increase if you work out correctly and drink or eat protein bars and shakes.

You dont know what are you talking about , you cant work out everyday ,because your muscle need time for regeneration, so thats one of reasons for trainning plans..

and about creatine , i wouldnt take if i am only athleticness , main problem of athleticness is that they lost lot of energy while runing/training and this cause that they dont have big weigth . If you want to gain some muscle you will need to stop with athleticness for some time and starting eating too much, also buy proteins or gainer as food suplements and creatin should be used minimally after 1 year of working out ,cause if you use it soon than it will have no effect so it will be waste of money. If you want some energy pump than you should use suplements like No explode and others.

It's not too big of a deal to take one cycle of creatine - you must cycle creatine. This means you can take it a month on and 2 weeks off. I recommend getting a tub of creatine monohydrate, it's the most simple of the creatines and it will show you some pretty quick/good results. You're only going to lose speed if you gain like 15 lbs., other than that, you should have no worries. You should probably stack it with whey protein to see better results. I know plenty of people who took creatine as a sophomore in high school and you're technically a junior. The thing about creatine is that you must consume a lot of water - which is the only difficulty because it can be tedious. Generally you should be drinking 8-15 bottles of water daily. I say that number loosely because it depends on body weight. You're going to gain a lot of water weight but taking the creatine will help induce strength gains that's why you must stack it with whey protein to build that muscle, because when you cycle off the creatine you're going to lose some of the mass you had gained, but keep most of the strength.

To whomever claims they're 145 lbs. and can bench 240 for 1 repetition - I can't see how that's possible. I've been around people lifting for years now and 240 is a lot for a 5'7" 145 lb. kid. Are you taking anything?

Also, Owain Jones is right. You could probably take something like super pump 250 or cell-tech - these are more complex creatine and will likely show you better results. But you cna always start small with the simple creatine like monohydrate, it's tasteless and cheap.

    are you moronic?
    day 1 chest/triceps
day 2 core cardio forearms calves
    day 3 back biceps forearms
    day 4 legs shoulders
    day 5 chest triceps
day 6 core cardio forearms calves
    day 7 back biceps

how hard is that? chest twice a week. Anyone who works their whole body in a day is not doing it properly, because they're either in the gym for 5 hours or not working out enough.

Yeah that's a good regime, but I wouldn't recommend 7 days a week, something like 4-6 would be better - you'd just need a different workout. Also, you could interchange shoulders and back on day 3 and day 4.

no because shoulders are used in chest and some back exercises. One day a week is plenty for them. However if i'm looking to bulk them up i'll alternate with triceps. Chest and shoulders is a great but very tiring.

Sorry but i dont count cardio as work out :/. And about whole body training, its better if you are starting with bodybuilding. I can tell you that I am in bodybulding around 2 year and i have never used any other fitness plans ,only fullbody, but still i think that if you work one day only on shoulders and legs than you probably end with your work out after like 30mins. Thats too low and do that every day isnt good idea. I prefer to put more exercies in one day so you will have another day time for regeneration and i see that you do cardio so you are probably in diet so you cant have much energy for work out ,because you dont eat much sugar/fat depends what type of diet you going.

true I did stop all cardio when I was bulking up. I do core, forearms, and calves 3 times a week.

Considering each set takes about 1.5 minutes (start to finish plus rest) and I do 8-10 exercises on my leg and shoulder day.

1.5x3x9=40 minutes minimum. That's before core and calves.
