is it illegal to sell rs accounts

so my parents are telling me its illegal to sell rs acc because when you click i agree to the terms (i don't remember having to do this to create an acc but maybe i wasn't paying attention) you are signing a contract and that if you break the rules you can go to jail.sounds like total bs but thought i would ask you guys... iv sold accs before but now there telling me i cant.sucks cuzz i was botting some accs to sell.....

Sell a username and a password. Not a Runescape account. Accounts belong to Jagex. A username and a password belong to you.

 

That's not to say that you couldn't go to jail for breaking everything in the EULA (ie. copying/modifying/reverse engineering of source code with intent to redistribute or sell) if they wished to push the matter, but no, there won't be any legal issues for trying to sell an account. If caught, they will simply end your "license to use their software".

lol yeah i sold an account to rs4gold like a few weeks ago. waited 14 days and got my payment and then......wamm! they are trying to disput the money back saying that they never got what they paid me for (which is a load of bs). i gave my dad the money back and ima recover it back (of course... why let um get both?)but now there telling me i cant sell accs anymore because its ""illegal"

They still aren't going to do anything but ban your account.

 

Its not illegal, its against the user end agreement. Worst that could happen is they ban your account. If you went to trial for this a judge would laugh in jagex's face and dismiss the case.

 

Atled was spot on. It's illegal to sell the account, because it is 100% property of Jagex and they just let you play on it. However, it is not illegal to sell the username and password, as they are just text and not owned by anybody.

 

Of course it isn't, and if it was illegal how would the enforce it? I think the police have better things to catch, such as cyber theifs rather than little kids selling runescape accounts, really.

Yeah it would be indecency. But you couldn't enforce it thus making it a stupid law to bring, the agreement isn't a legalized one, it's like saying sharing the password is illegal. It's an agreement. If broken legal action won't be taken it would be virtual in terms of your account.
