Eh I usually type with perfect grammar, especially when I'm trying to prove a point. It helps that I have spell check on safari.

technology is growing to the point where it's making us all to lazy. A person with the right amount of money will never have to leave the house at all.

The language is the same the human race is going backwards as time goes past due to technology.

I partly agree. There are some things we simply just can't do when typing a paragraph or sentence. Like, saying laugh out loud. Instead we say, LOL as an expression of laughter when something is funny. It's short-hand for some of the more complicated way to use grammar on the net. As far as the "U for You" thing goes, I agree completely. It's two letters and it takes two more keystrokes to type out and that's one less second you spend typing whatever it is you may be typing. And then sometimes there is a character limit. Meaning the only way to get the point out is by short-handing words because, there are only 180 characters allowed in a single message.

usually doesn't matter if it is or isn't with that way of thought people get dumber everyday and every second. It may not be serious business but i rather not sound like a retard every time i send a message.

Time changes things, and the way people type isn't excluded from time.

I don't mind small abbreviations or acronyms, minor misspellings, or small grammar errors. But when people type like complete retards it really gets on my nerves and I don't even bother reading it. You don't have to have perfect grammar, but if you are trying to say something, at least try to say it properly.

Is the english language being ruined?

Most languages are a bastardization of another language. Almost all stemming from basic Latin, and I believe there was another language before that, but it was less vast.

The amount of information in our world is increasing, and with it our ability to communicate effectively must also increase. For instance, there is no way that ancient society's could have predicted the creation of an 'airplane' and thus, a new word must be put together.

In the case of 'slang' it is not technically English. It is 'English Slang' which is a completely different language altogether. To compare it with English, while you will find similarities, would be like comparing Mexican and Spanish.

Is the english language being ruined?

YES...I DID SEARCH THROUGH YOUR POSTS TO FIND THIS.
    Hypocrite.

Leet speak (deemed the internet language) is a alternative method of literation, similar to the SMS text message replacing standard letter writing techniques. It's utilized for many reasons, convience in regards to physical application, time savioured during construction and sending of a message, and the absence of having to sharpen your pencil (maybe that's why man invented pen).

Scholars will never let leet speak replace standardised english literacy.

EDIT: Someone should start a thread concerning the topic of 'Hypocrisy'.

It's not being ruined, because it isn't even being used properly half of the time. How can you break something without using it? Aha.

It is much easyer/faster to write if you you don't allways write the whole word.
I think really it isn't being ruined.

Is the english language being ruined?

Not only due to the internet but we as people don't have to speak that way we allow ourselves to use such horrid language in a serious matter.I can understand if your joking around with a few mates online but typing that way on the regular basis isn't good nor is it cool.

I work as an educational assistant at a secondary school while I'm at Uni.

I think you would be surprised at the amount of "Internet speak" that gets written in essays.

who the fuck cares? if you can understand what somebody is saying or typing then why does it matter how they spell or abbreviate something? however, some people posting here must go to some weird schools because i never knew of anyone in any class i ever took to use "internet speak" in an essay.
