    But..

    1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 1
    .3 + .3 + .3 = .9

    Same difference.

    Although the further along the nines went the closer they would get to being one, they will never actually reach one.

    Whoever disagrees with Op's statement needs to go back to year 8 maths.

    because 0.333 isn't 1/3.

    1/3 = 0.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333...and so on and so forth.

    If you agree you need to learn how to round properly and realise that 1/3 is an appropriation and an irrational number.

    .33333r = 1/3. 3 x .33333r = .99999r =/= 1. The OP has absolutely no argument

    *sigh* This thread seems to be filled with people who never learned about infinite series.... You'll learn when you take Calculus. It's true, it's proven, don't argue with it.

    Isn't this just due to rounding errors? Lol

    I believe the true definition of "equal to" is that both sides has be to equal to the other. This makes 0.999~ =/= 1, because 1 =/= 0.999~

    I'll explain.

    It's true that the irrational number 0.333~ can be rationalized into 1/3, and three of those makes 1. HOWEVER, 3/3 cannot be derationalized into 0.999~ because 3/3 irrevocably equals 1, therefore making 1 =/= 0.999~

    Rational =/= irrational.

    I have to go with swan here. Are you trying to get yourself famous by being the person that disproves math its self?

    all he proved (well he didn't prove it, somebody else did) is that .9999999999999999999999999999999999 can resemble 1 which was so obvious that it didn't need to be mathematically proven in the first place.
