Welcome to the Account Sell Criteria thread. Below is information regarding account sells, safety tips, and scam prevention.

    Table of Contents:
    • Section I: Introduction
    • Section II: Examples Of Scams
    • Section III: Terms and FAQ's
    • Section IV: The "Point System"
    • Section V: Link Directory

    ______________________________

    Section I: Introduction

Due to the volume of scams and scam attempts linked to account trading, I have written a guide to
help users when buying, or selling accounts on the Runescape Black Market.

This is to protect users, and staff alike. Please note, this does not, and will not, mean you cannot/will not be scammed. This is set to give users a basic guideline to follow when purchasing account, and tips on safety and how to prevent scams.

    ______________________________

    Section II: Examples Of Scams

Usually, you will come across a member who would rather steal, or "Scam", your Runescape account, gold, or even real life money. *In order to keep this from happening (Refer to section I), I will provide you with examples on how to tell if someone is trying to scam, and how to prevent it.

    "No Official Middle Man":
You have an account for sell, and have met the requirements for selling an account. On your thread, you have an auto-win price of $100 (Not all will do this, This is an example.) However, a user decides he wants to scam you. Instead of offering $100, he offers DOUBLE the price! But, there is a catch. The user said he is either busy and wants the trade done fast, can't afford a Middle Man, claims he/she is trusted, or any other excuse to not use a Middle Man.

You might ask yourself, "What's so bad about that?". Without a Official Middle Man, most buyers will expect you to go first. Doing so sets you up to get your hard earned account stolen (This also applies when buying an account). Middle Mans act as what they are named, a actual Middle Man. The seller will give the Middle Man the account details and password, which will then be changed so the seller can't change the password. The buyer will then proceed to send the money to the seller. Once this has been accomplished and verified by the Official Middle Man, he will then give you all details to the account, including the password, which should be changed afterwards.

    "The 50/50 Deal"
This deal will start out the same. However, this user is smarter when it comes to scamming.
He will go on with the trade like normal. However, this user again claims that he doesn't want to use an Official Middle Man, for whatever reason. Instead, he insists on a "50/50". When you 50/50, The seller will give the buyer the password. After, the buyer will pay, then the seller will give the rest of the details. 50/50's involve a lot of risk on both ends of the trade. Usually, the seller will give the password, and the buyer changes it an never pays. Or, he pays, then the seller never gives the other account details, thus recovering the account later on.

It's of best interest to avoid any 50/50's, unless the user is very, very trust worthy (Section VII).
However, in most cases, trusted users use Official Middle Men anyway, so even then there is no need for this.

    "The Nice Guy"
This one is almost impossible to spot. However precations can still be taken. What happens is a person will buy an account. They use an Official Middle Man, and everything seems to go smooth. However, a week later, you wake up in the morning, log in, and the password to the account you purchased has been changed. You: "Must have forgotten my password"; *Proceeds to recover the account*. "Sorry, you appeal has been Denied for ______________. What this means, in during the trade, the seller has not provided enough solid information for the person to recover the account.

To prevent this from happening, follow these steps:
    • Before the trade, have the Official Middle Man attempt to recover the account with the details provided.
    • If it's recoverable, you are now in a much safer position to purcahse the account.
    • Even if this is so, it does not mean your account is safe. No account is %100 percent safe. As long as the original owner knows all the details, it's still possible to get recovered.

    "The Busy Guy"
Sounds weird right? However, most of us come across this person pretty often when browsing accounts in the black market. This user will seem legitimate, and will agree to using an Official Middle Man (Or not. If not, it's reccomended you don't trade).

However, this user doesn't meet the requirements for selling an account (Refer to Section IV).
This means he/she will still have recoveries, bank pins, emails, or all of the above still set.
This is bad for a few reasons. It's like buying a suitcase with someone else's locks on it, but they give you they key. The seller will still have that key, and can easily open your suitcase. Same goes for account. They will have recoveries, and they give the information, however it only makes it easier for the to recover.

If they have bank pins, this allows them to protect "Their" bank if they recover it. And having an existing E-Mail only allows them to verify they are the real owner, since only they have access to the E-Mail.

    "The Imposter"
This one is fairly common. Normally, a trade is set up (Usually the trade doesn't involve a MM), and each other are about to trade. However,
during the process where both users add each others E-Mail, an "Imposter" will add the buyer/seller (With an E-Mail that looks identical), and proceed to trade.
This is bad for both sides, since you aren't trading the original seller, meaning you won't get your money/account.

To prevent this, make sure you get a PM from the buyer/seller after you have added their E-Mails.
This can also be prevented further by using an Official Middle Man.

    "The Imposter II"
This one is similar to the above. However, instead of either of the users being the imposters, it's the Middle Man.
This is extremely unsafe, since bother traders can lose their items. This can be prevented the same way as above; Make sure
the Middle Man you use PM's you after you have them added.

    ______________________________

Section III: Terms and FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

Below is a list of common terms used when buying/selling an account:
    • OMM - Short for Official Middle Man. They are deemed official only by Sythe Staff, and have a User Title to display that they are indeed an "OMM".

    • MM - Short for Middle Man. Similar to the above, but much different. These can vary from Leechers to Guru Donators. They are different because even though some may be trusted, they invlove risk for both sides of the trade, since they aren't official. Avoid these unless they are your only option and they are trusted, with legitimate vouched.

    • Vouche - A common term used to display trust and a token of anothers gratitude of a successful trade, or trust between the two users, whether it be recent or past trades or interactions.

    • Mod - Short for Moderator. These are trusted staff members of Sythe who deal with issues on the site. These users are very trustworthy, however they are still not an Official Middle Man. However, in some cases, may or may not be more trusted than an actual Official Middle Man.

    • Admin - Short for Administrator. These are highly trusted head staff members of Sythe who deal with issues. These users are very trustworthy, however they are still not an Official Middle Man. However, in most cases are always more trusted than an Official Middle Man.

    • PP - Short for PayPal. PayPal in an online transaction site used to send and recieve money. When using PayPal, make sure users have verified PayPals. PayPal is risky because users can charge back/dispute, and get their money back, meaning they can scam.

    • CBM/CIM - Cash by Mail/Cash in Mail. This is the least popular of transactions, due to the time and risk involved. Since it's not PayPal, you can not charge back if you are scammed. But, you can not be disputed against, so others can't take back their money.
Safe under the right circumstances, but not a reccomended method.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I do if I am scammed?
A: If you are a victim of a scam, make sure proof is provided, and post on the "Report a scammer" thread. (Refer to Section V).

Q: Is the account I buy 100% safe?
A: No account is ever 100% safe. However, following these precautions will insure that it's safe as it
can be. Trust is the key here.

Q: If I want to trade by mail, what do I do?
A: Have an Official Middle Man hold the password and account details until the money is sent. It's
advised you send it as a package, not an envelope, so it can be tracked and verified when it arrives.

Q: What requirements are there to sell an account?:
A: Accouts should be free of: Emails, Bank Pins, Recoveries, Membership (Not needed but helps), Little to no Black Marks, and all information must be available for the buyer.

Q: How can I tell if a vouch is real or fake?
A: Click the [>] Arrow. Read it and verify that what was said in the vouch was true.
Ex: "Nice guy, sold me his pure for $100! [>]", When you click it, it should show the thread with the pure, and that the vouche was there and it wasn't an edited vouche.

    ______________________________

    Section IV: The "Point System"

In order to give you an idea on how secure the account is, I made a small point system. This system is not proven to be accurate, and you should only rely on it to give you an idea on how safe an account might be.

    Safety Levels:
    ______________________________
25 Points or More: Green Zone
23 Points or More: Yellow Zone
19 Points or More: Orange Zone
Less than 19 Points: Red Zone
    ______________________________

It's Reccomended that the account be in the Yellow Zone when buying. Any lower is a higher risk
of being scammed. This isn't always true, but is with most cases.

Does not have Email: 2 Points
Does not have Recovery Questions Set: 3 Points
Does not have Bank Pin: 2 Points
Does not have Outstanding Offences (Bans/Mutes): 2 Points
Has not Now Or Ever Been A Moderator: 1 Point
Has not Now Or Ever Been Botted/Trained By A Pay Site: 2 Points
Is not Currently Banned: 3 Points
Is not Currently Muted: 3 Points
    Seller can supply Name/Age/Location/Zip/Email/Move Dates/Ip Adress/Ect: 3 Points
Seller can supply Old Passwords/Recoveries/Emails/Membership Info/Pins: 3 Points
Seller Does Not Live On The Other Side Of The World: 1 Point
    Seller has Vouches/Trust: 1 Point
    Seller is Not A Leecher/Convicted Scammer/Ban Evader: 1 Point
Account has Been Verified In Game By An Official Middle Man: 1 Point
Account is not the the "400+ Accounts Not To Buy" List: 2 Points

Add all of your points up. (Points x 3.3). This will give you an idea of how safe an account is. For example, I have 28 out of 30 Points, Multiply by 3.3. The account is 92% Safe!

    .•°•. Account Sales Guide .•°•.

Section III seemed a little too obvious, I bet 98% of the people on Sythe know what a vouch or MM is.

Although it is a good guide for someone who is new to account trading but is almost useless to active members here.
