    Where to start?

    Hey guys,

Well, I'm an avid computer user and love to build/make pretty much anything computer related I built my computer and would like to start getting into software creation. I have made a few things before In visual basics such as a web browser and an auto typer. But I would like to know where you really start, what language is the best to learn java,C++ etc. and where can I find such lessons to help me improve my skills. (School is not a help at all, currently in computing we are doing databases so I just worked on scripts and made a web browser in the database program.)

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Where to start?

VB is a very easy language to start with, but its not really the most useful.

Java is very useful, and its ever increasing in popularity. Most Schools and Universities seem to use Java alot more than they use to.

C++ is the best option for your first choice. It will help you understand syntax--not only C++ syntax, but it will help you whenever you switch to different languages.

You also might want to search around the internet for *free* books, too.

    Where to start?

You probably want to start with Java. It's a lost easier to understand Object-Oriented Programming starting with Java IMO. Java also has Eclipse, which is a great IDE. C++ is a lot harder to understand as a beginner but it has much more potential than Java does (most programs are written in C++, but most web-applications are written in Java). Anyways, start with Java, and after a year or so, move onto C++.

Personally, I started with C++ and really understood the logic of it all, but with Java I was able to really understand Object-Oriented Programming and how to best structure and organize my programs.

Java is the best learning tool, which is way high schools and colleges use it to start, but if you want to be a serious programmer then move on to C++ as you get better.

    Where to start?

You can always use Notepad++, or vi(m), and compile after.
