What is it like after death?

Nobody can answer that question, it is not something any human being knows. I myself believe that after death I will be in a place called Heaven, many others believe many different things and some believe the same and it all comes down to what you believe in because there is no right or wrong answer until we are dead and find out for ourselves.

 

Which ass did you pull that fact from? Last I heard it was less than 2,000 million and dropping. Considering Islam had 1,300 million and was rising, I wouldn't be surprised if it had surpassed Christianity.

As to what happens after death, it cannot be proven. Scientifically, you'd feel nothing. Religously, depending on your religion, you'd be reincarcerated into another animal, purgatory, etc.

 

If you die, then it is just endless darkness. YOu will be like in sleep forever.
But there are probably million theorys about it. ::'(

 

Sounds really scary. Think of what would happen if you just vanished and the world continued on. Is there a new world for you to explore? Or do you just go poof? What happens to your thoughts and memories?

I don't like this question because: in the most likely case after death, we simply are non-existent, you will never know. I'm not afraid, but it is just strange.

 

Any way that you think about it, it still is and always will be a theory.
Theories are neither right nor wrong. Certain theories are not closer to being the truth than any other theory.
This thread purely maintains a personal view. No-one is right. No-one is wrong.

In my personal opinion, God is real. There will be an afterlife because I believe so. Even if I'm wrong, my religion has led me to be a better person in life, creating a sense of achievement. When my time is up, I will be ready for what's to come. Simple as that.

 

Thoughts and memories are chemical reactions in your brain. Once you die, your brain is deprived of oxygen and vital 'foods' to keep it functioning (obviously). Once this happens, your memories piss off to no-where.
Lets say you do go to Heaven. Even if you did, would your memories come with you? If they did, you'd have thoughts of your earthly life and all mistakes made in it. You'd have emotions felt for those memories. Memories allow regret, sadness, anger, etc. to occur, thus contradicting the idea of Heaven as a utopia; A perfect environment where none of those emotions are felt.
So either we enter Heaven with a totally new mind-set, or Heaven isn't perfect, IMO.

I'm not allowing the idea of no afterlife, because I deny the theory of everything that has happened up to this point in time to be an accident.

 

Hopefully heaven (or hell for that matter), but I believe it would be like what it was before we were born... nothing.
Its a scary thought to think that you as a soul, entity, and being will be complete darkness and nothingness after your life.

I just wanted to say that everyone saying, "we'll never know", and other such things, is wrong. Furthermore, they've obviously never heard of the millions of counts of those who have died, and were brought back to life seconds, even minutes later.

It's happened.

The recounts of the people? Nothing. It was as if they were unconscious.

Now, I, personally, would expect someone to come with the whole, "Well, obviously, God didn't take that persons soul, because he knew that he'd be brought back to life." or "Well, obviously, that persons soul didn't have enough time to pass on.", yadda yadda yadda.

Either way, it's a contradiction. So, obviously, and this is only by going with what we as humanity have, it would be safe to take the word of the people who have died and been revived.

When you die, it's nothing.

 

To say that consciousness is not possible after death is to assume that consciousness can only be contained in the brain and cannot exist outside the brain. But seeing as consciousness is energy and that atoms are simply small fluctuations of energy and that's what the universe is made of, then it's perfectly possible for consciousness to exist in the universe. I believe that the human brain is simply a conductor of consciousness which can allow the consciousness to experience the physical world and learn from it. There are also different levels of consciousness and you can increase the amount of consciousness you have through extensive meditation. Remember that matter and energy is never destroyed it is only converted, so when you die your consciousness will simply be set free from the physical suit that it has been contained in and who knows what happens from there.
