Your freedom now is much greater than it would be if you had "absolute freedom", so to speak.
    Sort of abstract...

Not really, you can't just kill someone and go to prison and ask, can i have freedom?

We're talking about freedom in abstract, not subjected to be limited to freedom defined by government standards.

Not in todays society. Todays society is based around what a probably fictional "superbeing" guided the human race to do, it's his word against ours. If God hadn't of been written about, what do you think todays human race would be like? There wouldn't be morality, therefore no law enforcements trying to keep the peace, by sustaining the morality. I think, personally, that if god hadn't been written about, there would be no forms of authority, and many of us would be "free".

If there was no authority you would be far from free. Is it that hard to comprehend?

I don't mean free in the sense that you're actually physically locked up, I meant that humanity wouldn't of evolved morality so there wouldn't be such things as police forces, governments etc, stopping us from being free. A prime example of what I mean is Immigration, why don't we have the right to live wherever we want without having to apply for visas and such? We should have the right to live wherever we choose, the way the earth was intended for us to live; not overrun by a government which can deny you the right to do so.

To be truly free is to have the "Freedom to Be." You are confusing the Freedom to Be with "The Freedom to Do" - a juvenile understanding of freedom.

If you were to act instinctively whenever you exercised your freedom to do, the freedom to be of all who surrounded you would be severely limited.

Law enforcement and government exist to protect your freedom, not detract from it. Neither has intent or malice, they are not living. They can, however, be corrupted by individuals who choose to exercise their inherent freedom to do - allowing them to benefit at the cost of the governed populus. Cuba would be a good example of this.

Though consequences may vary from situation to situation, there's no denying that there is always options, always a choice to be made, always the chance to exercise freedom.

Well, seeing how everyone has a different view on what freedom actually is, and what is right and wrong, i would say yes. To me, freedom is being able to tell the truth to anyone (even if that means hurting them).

We can never truly have freedom. Also it depends on your idea of what freedom truly is. To me freedom is being able to live how you want to live to a certain extent. But one might say...Maleficent how can we live where we want and how I want to live with a certain extent doesn't that take away our freedom? Yes it does but total freedom can lead to chaos I don't understand why we can't build our own houses and if we bought a house why must we continue to pay after it's suppose to be ours. Nothing in this world is yours except the clothes on your back. Where you live, eat and sleep is an area you borrowed.

Depending on what goals you set for yourself and what you aspire to become, you can make yourself free. For me, freedom is being without stress, responsibilities, or any other commitments which I simply can't shrug off and go on doing what I feel like doing.

Do I consider myself free? No, not completely. I have some minor obligations I have to take care of, people I have to take notice of, and other responsibilities. I plan on getting rid of all of them eventually, moving to some island far away, and never speaking to anyone I knew ever again. Freedom :)

Not in a socially acceptable way, no. The truley free people are the people we put in mental hospitals for beating people to death with a steel dildo.

Depends on your view of free I guess.
But I guess due to the restrictions of society, family, and inherent circumstances one cannot truly be free because not everyone will be on equal footing.
But then again I am still free to do whatever I want, like respond to your thread.
But in actuality, no one cannot truly be free. my opinion though

That's not freedom. Read what Arcem said - he cleared it up very concisely.
