    Being Different

Does anyone get the feeling that you don't belong? That you're different?

I get the feeling that I don't belong in anything.. I feel different. I act, speak, and respond in ways that skew endlessly into the beaten path. Sometimes I feel so alone....

    What about you guys?

I think everyone feels what you feel to a certain extent. We are all humans but we are all different in our unique ways. Some things that have helped me are sports, clubs, and relationships. When you work or acomplish something with other people, you get a sense on belonging. The more you interact with people, the less you will feel isolated.

    Good question Poke.
In my opinion, it's not belonging that's the problem. It's accepting that we are different. There are no two people in this world the same. You have the same right to belong as every other person, sadly, some choose not to chase that right. If anything, you're misunderstood. The large population of the current world as well as the diversity within makes it pretty difficult to not relate to somebody somehow. There is a mental stumbling block and you have got to overcome it.

    I hope my post helped.

Are you in high school? Why do you view being different as a negative thing?

In school everybody wants to blend in, nobody wants to stick out. Guess what, when you're in the real world and you're a young adult, it's the exact opposite. Being different, creative, and unique will get you far in life. Embrace it.

After high school, you'll never hear from the majority your friends & acquaintances ever again. Don't stress out, trust me, it's a waste of your time and energy.

I constantly feel that way every single day of my life. But then, instead of being depressed, I make the best of it and smile.

I really don't care about what people think about me though. Why should you? I've never been independent on friends and I'm certainly not going to start now.

I look different. I'm usually teased because I'm the only dark guy in my chinese independent school. But I just shrug it off. I've been there for 4 years. I've learnt that punching them in the face does nothing.

I act different. My peers think my what I do is weird. Why should they be the one to judge my life? Just move along, in my opinion. Your friends will not always be there for you and will usually betray you in the end.

Being different isn't necessarily a bad thing. Though I too, feel different from others, it doesn't make others any better than me, nor does it make me worse than anyone around me. It just makes me special, and like some of the above posters, I bet other people think that they're different from me. So technically, we're all different from each other...

All in all, just make the best of it.

I like being different, it's fun. I also know how to act and blend in normally when appropriate though.

I've looked into Asperger's Syndrome and its' symptoms. None of them really fit my situation.

On the suggestion of homosexuality, no I'm in strong affirmation of engaging in relationships with females. Males? No, sorry. Not me.

Are you SURE you're not gay?

You've probably never had a detailed relationship with a woman. You never know.

Also, your mom might have done something bad during pregnancy or you might have a birth defect.

Sometimes I completely blank people, without noticing. I can't sit still.

I'm a halfcast guy, in a white society full of racists, with long black hair.
I'm different and proud of it. I'm proud of my background.

I get on with some of my class mates, some people must think i'm a bit bizzare from a personality point of view because I make sound effects, and laugh at various things out loud at random times. I avoid talking to people at college though.

Belonging isn't issue. If everyone used belonging as an excuse, no one would belong anywhere. Everyone belongs somewhere. There is a purpose in everyones life. You have to seek something where you will belong. You belong here on sythe, the community obviously has been well to you, and you have been well to them. People here respect you, that's belonging. No one should have to stand alone no matter what. We are so fortunate for everything we have. You have traits that others don't have and that's what sets you apart from others. I think that you belong to the sythe community, and that should be enough.

No, I don't feel like that. I think the people who feel like that are mostly the ones with poor social skills and few friends.

Sometimes I think I'm better than everyone else, because I am; but that's probably not what you mean when you say different.

If you are going to be like that I suggest not posting in this section.

Just because people are different, doesn't mean they have poor social skills and few friends. It's good to be different. I wouldn't want to be some average Joe who does what everyone else does and is normal.

He asked for opinions, not advice and he definitely didn't ask for everyone to agree with him.

If you're going to knee jerk without reading the original post, I suggest not posting in this section.

When you're out of school, it won't be the guys who got bad grades and played a ton of sports that society cares about, it'll be the smart ones who did something unique with their lives.

I know I don't belong. I hate the fact that I know this and can't change it right now. I am totally different from the people around me and see things people wouldn't see. I walk through life sad knowing I have to interact with people who doesn't appreciate knowledge about stuff outside of what school teaches.

Being different makes you who you are, don't let anything get in the way of that. Be the unique kid with a mind of his own. Trust me, people will like that much better than the average trend following moron. Express yourself to the fullest, don't hold back.
