I've worked at a couple of places, and there are no job that keep you in the back, away from customers 100% of the time. If I were you though, I would try being a bus boy, or perhaps a grocery store worker.

Well, I'm only going on 14 lol so won't be getting a job for a while :p
But I would love to work in a cinema (movie theater) for a while.
Thats the best place for young people to get jobs really.

    Summer jobs?

Increasing hours at this fast food restaurant I've been working for about a year now.

I'm also helping neighbors and friends with their stuff and helping them move out.

    Summer jobs?

You sir will soon be 25 and happily residing in momma and pappa duke's basement =).

Ummm as far as a summer job...I see no problem with working at a fast food restaurant. You say that the fast food places are such dead end jobs, yet you're going for a summer job. When I think summer job I think of "a job in the summertime to get some cash" not a job that is going to set me up in the future.

If you really don't like the idea of fast food I might have some other idea's

    - Car wash place
    - A deli
    - A pizzeria
    - Gas station
    - baby sitting (its not for just girls, and you can actually make bank off it)

I'll edit my post if any more come to mind.

Never even heard of Kroger. When I say 18 I mean Vons, Staterbros, SaveOns, Food 4 Less.

    Summer jobs?

I started off at McDonalds at 15, and can say it was a wise decision. I've worked many fast food places throughout the years, and now, when times are rough, I can simply walk into a fast food restraunt, put down my resume, and be almost a guarantee hire.

You said they don't teach you anything, that is wrong. They teach you the basics of employment. You learn how to work with a team, how to develop good customer service skills, how to properly follow code, how to maintain a good cash policy, and you also learn what you want in a leader, which in turn makes you a better leader.

So many people dismiss the fast food restaurants as careers as they see themselves doing the same thing 30 years down the road. Lifers, however, are few and far between. You're simply looking for easy cash, and a place to start off. It will teach you to work in a high pace environment, which is necessary in all walks of life.

While I don't recommend spending more than a few months, or years, in each restaurant, and you surely shouldn't stop going to school and learning new talents, I can think of no better place for a young adult to start their career.

    Summer jobs?

Just because I want to enjoy my summers, and my parents don't mind paying for my gas and other necessities doesn't mean that I'll be a 25 year old basement-dweller.
