So people would weigh the island down? That's strange, I'd think that Singapore or Java would be soon to follow then.

 

It's really not possible for an island to sink with only humans as the weight on it. It is possible to sink an island, but it takes a very large amount of weight on it do do so. Also, for an island to capsize, it would have to float. And islands don't float.

They are in the bottom of the ocean... Basically an island (depending on the island, of course) is an underwater mountain that extends out of the top of the water.

Some islands are floating land masses, but most are connected to the Earths crust which would make it(in theory) inplausable to sink.

 

Any floating land mass cannot support people, and usually are just made up of floating debris that collect together.
