how do you delete BACKUP

i was looking through my entire computer for stuff that takes up alot of memory and i found a folder called BACKUP and i looked at the properties and it said 16.9GB, so i looked inside to see if it was anything of importance and it was just a backup of everything on my computer from forever ago. so of course i went to delete it, but i kept getting errors saying i needed permission.......soooo i gave myself the permission and went to delete it again but im still getting the same error

Are you the only admin user on the computer?

 

Well if you have permissions click the windows key on your keyboard + R or go to run then CMD and type this

attrib -r -a -s -h del [drive] [path] [foldername]

Then press enter and it should delete it.

the exact location of the folder is C:\BACKUP soooo could you put that all together, because i tried attrib -r -a -s -h del C:\BACKUP and all it did was give me a parameter error =\

 

Gah, i realized that wont work if you dont have permissions.

Right click on the folder, select Properties. Click on the security tab, Click Administrators, Click Edit, find your "user name" in the list and select it. Press OK, OK, On adminstrators, select the delete permission and click on OK.

Also, have you tried highlighting all the files in the folder and deleting those? Then deleting the foldeR?

If still that does not work go to run ( run as admin), then type cmd.exe, then type "cd (directory)" so for instance, "cd c:\" would make it go to your c drive, so wherever your folder was located you would put there. I.E if BACKUP was in my documents type "cd C:\Users\Default\Documents". After that hit enter and type "rename BACKUP test". then exit cmd and go try to delete the newly renamed test folder

well i dont know if its working but i renamed it to test like you said and then i ran cmd as admin and did

it said back "are you sure y/n" i typed y and now i think it might be doing something but im seeing no results at the moment

 

Each one of those was a seperate method to try if the above didnt work. With the renaming method, however, you were stupposed to just delete by clicking the folder and hitting delete key

 

ya, i tried simply pressing the delete key...
BUT i was looking through this website and this guy was having the same problem and he downloaded a thing called unlock assistant. i found some use in it, but it can only delete 1 thing at a time and there is 90,000 thing in there

 

Did you try highlighting all in the subfolder and deleting those and then deleting the empty folder?

 

wellllll...sort of, i got pretty far in that but what i have now are 2 folder program files and windows both of which give me the same error i get when i try to delete the entire folder. before it was over 30GB of stuff in there but i reduced it to 17GB. now im stuck

 

The files may be open in a running program which would prevent you from deleting them... Try closing any processes that you don't need. >_>.
