10 steps to improving your Halo 3 skills!

Introduction

Over the past couple years playing halo, I've noticed many players who can't seem to get better. There are many ways to improve your skills and kick the habits which make people not improve. Follow these steps and you'll be on your way to getting a 50.

Step 1

Figure out what settings you want, and stick to them. I have met many people who change their settings frequently, which is a horrible habit. I've had the same settings since halo 2 and it's made me a better player overall.

There are many PROS and CONS to settings, such as:

Low sensitivity: Helps you have a steady BR, but it takes longer to turn around.

Bumper jumper: Allows you to jump & beat down at the same time.


Step 2

Focus on 1 weapon at a time. The best way to do this is to find a friend who'll practice with you. Go into a custom game and practice with that weapon (For example: Have a br-only gametype).

Step 3

Practice with people BETTER than you. You will never get better playing against the same bad kids everyday. The best way to do this is going into MLG. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose. MLG is competitive and will force you to adapt to certain situations. Another way I've found to warm up your skills is to go into MLG FFA.

Step 4

Know your maps. If you don't already go into forge and tour all of the maps you're unfamiliar with. This will help you know where is what and where to go to.

Step 5

Have a good knowledge of techniques. There are many techniques which people aren't aware of, that can decide the game, for example:

On guardian, if you spawn on "Elbow", wait beside the overshield until someone comes near you.

Step 6

Use power weapons. I've noticed a lot playing on my lower leveled account that some players ignore power weapons (Rockets, Sniper, etc). If you come across one, pick it up and use it to your advantage.

Step 7

Have good communication. This is essential if you want to get better. Communication can literally be the deciding factor of a game.

For example: Time power-ups (Overshield, rockets) and remind your teammates that they're spawning back soon.

Another example: If someone is weak on your X, then call it out so your teammate is aware and can clean him up.

Step 8

Play with people who you know won't carry you down. Try to play with people who are around the same skill as you, or you'll find yourself carrying all the weight.

Step 9

HAVE PATIENCE. This is one of the most useful skills to have while playing halo 3. If you keep rushing the opposing team, you'll find yourself having a lot of deaths. If you have the lead, play conservatively and use the lead to your advantage (They have to come to you!).

Step 10

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, you won't become better over night!

Good guide, also add when BR'in use strafes to the advantage such as, two little side steps and a long strafe. Also you can have this thing you can download on iTunes and it tells you when certain weapons spawn, like it goes Rockets up in 20 seconds, 10 seconds I use that when I used to play competitvley. If you've got a team, go through tactics what you do at the start of every match, Eg. on pit. One my team mates used to rush sniper, I would rush Overshield. Another rush rockets and hang around green, And someone eles would push through Alley.
