Sythe Lag

Recently, I've been lagging a lot on Sythe. Every time I try to open a new thread, it takes about one minute just to load it. It took me a while just to even write this thread...

Everything else works fine, RuneScape, RapidShare, etc. I only ever lag on Sythe. Any problem with the server? Any way to fix this?

It's a problem with the server. Usually, too many people are trying to get on at one time. Or the server is getting ddosed by asshats with nothing else to do.

Sythe needs to install a better firewall/get a faster server.

 

Specifically, when there are a huge number of people trying to acsess the server, it kicks some people off or makes everyone slow as hell

Also, people who were banned/hate Sythe DDOS the system and bring it down for a while at a time.

It's pretty much impossible to stop this, as buying a new server would mean that everything would need to be re-coded.

I'm not sure about the whether we can get a new firewall.

Its not a "problem" with the server. And you cannot protect the server from DDoS attacks with a firewall... You cannot auto filter a range of Ip's connecting to the server as no script/program can tell the difference between legit connections and bots..Only possible solutions would be to add some type of captcha or button on a homepage, which, after passing, would redirect to the forums. This, still, could be surpassed, but would limit the amount of attacks. True DDoS filtering can only be done manually..

 

It's not you, it's the server. It's fine most of the time though
