Is the english language being ruined?

Is the English language being ruined, I mean with texting and msn talk no one really seems to use proper English on the internet. A lot of people just say "U" instead of "You" which is ridiculous in my opinion it's only two letters longer and people can't be bothered to say it?

On the internet or texting I write just as I would on an essay. Even though it takes a tiny bit of extra time it's better than some garbage that doesn't even make sense.

But I don't know that's just my opinion, I find that so many people suck at spelling and grammar it's just crazy.

The internet is not govern by the English language. It's a free-zone for people to speak in multiple languages.

Internet speak is a completely different language, it's not English by any means. In the same way, you wouldn't say that Latin was being ruined by people speaking English would you?

Now, I'm not flaming you, my good sir. I'm simply trying to explain to you that just because a language sounds similar, doesn't mean it's the same language ruined.

A further example is how Italian and Spanish sound almost identical, but they're two completely different languages all together.

My point, Just enjoy teh Interwebz n if u dnt lyke the lang... dnt write/speak it. :D

You write here exactly as you write essays? You're pulling a lot of run-ons.

You're free to write on the internet in whatever language you wish. If you want to do both combined then do so but that doesn't mean anything will happen to English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, etc.

Although your point in OP doesnt really make much sense, I would concurr that the language itself is deteriorating, even though it is an eventual occurrence with most languages, at least in some part.

Is the english language being ruined?

Well, let's think about it for a moment.

16th Century English language. Think of Romeo and Juliet or other Shakespeare plays, what was the language like?

Now think of it today. The 16th century one does seem very Posh compared too the current version of language.

The language has and will always change, and it will seem too get lazier and lazier. However, the way it is turning at the moment, with a lot of abbreviations and slang, it could be ruined, yes.

The English is not ruined, you can't really ruin a language, you can just have people that are too stupid to speak/write that language correctly.

If I talk to someone that speaks like a complete idiot

Then I will not be inclined to initiate a discussion with that person. It shall also be flagged in my brain that these people are stupid because they can't or don't have the capacity to communicate properly.

I would like you to go on MySpace and click on "browse people" at the top. In the fields enter "either" for gender, keep the ages the same, change the zip code to "33334" (my zip code) and change the radius of the search to about 5 miles. Proceed to search and check out some of the profiles, take note of the comments left on their profiles. I can assure you that 1 out of 1000 comments can even be considered close to "proper" English.

I don't think the English language is being ruined, it's just being laughed at by these illiterate idiots who go and sing songs about how awesome it is to live in the ghetto and think anyone that communicates without being a lazy idiot is a fag.

This could contribute to the overall decline to the correct usage of the English language as humans, as social people, want to fit in and be accepted by their peers. This certainly isn't accomplished when someone talks "normal" and gets bashed for it.

Eventually we will come to a middle point where we will be wondering which "English" we should use and it will boil down to these two options: broken or proper and I personally think that the broken English will become more prominent among us all and we will eventually be pressured into changing to conform to the new standards set forth by these idiots.

I can't wait until I move out of this fucking ghetto, I really fucking can't stand the guys who beat women younger than them to the point where they go into a coma when given medicine to reduce swelling.

At the school I went to talking properly is "talking white"

You are wrong in your assumption that everyone, for the most part, keeps this kind of spelling and grammar on the internet.

People on the internet are lazy, its that simple.
Why type so proper if you aren't getting graded on it or something along those lines?

So you don't look like an idiot

Anyone that puts "q" instead of "g", for example.

Is the english language being ruined?

It's just computer/text speak. I don't find it a big deal, but I'd rather people write in complete sentences and use correct grammar.

This, however, is very annoying and i hate when people do it because I cannot understand what it says.

Is the english language being ruined?

actually i did a test in 11th grade. I spoke to some people online on AIM and they wrote just like this.

a yo liike we qonna qo to da moviies toniight u wanna kum? iits qonna b mad fun kuz we qonna hav mad giirls there we qonna b ODeein wen we get there.

Now that is the most dumbest shit i ever seen in my life i didn't even bother to try to understand it. I just said no and went on with my life but in class we got paired to do assignment and they couldn't read for worth shit. My 7th grade cousin prob reads better then they do and spell better. It's a damn shame it's only internet language but people are in fact starting to use it in real life situations.

Also i don't care to much for proper grammar, spelling ect but don't be a retard about it.

It's only the internet, it doesn't matter, we aren't being graded or critiqued on how we are spelling. You'll find that in order to pass High School you will have to use proper American English in your essays to pass. Intentional grammar errors will not pass you in High School, I'm pretty confident in saying that these grammar requirements will always stay the same if not be raised in times to come as there is much more competition to excel and get into top universities and such..

I don't know, over the internet isn't a big deal, but in real life, if you cant write properly, you won't make it outta high school, so in reality, it doesn't even matter lol...
