Help convincing my parents I need a car!

Hey guys, it's Luke. I live in America, I am 16 and I do have my license. All of my friends get cars when they turn 16, however I did not I need help convincing my parents to get me a car. I play basketball and run track, so I'm always going to practices. I have 2 younger sisters who are also actively involved in many sports. We live in a nice house, it's not like we don't have the money. I started applying for jobs, but then they put on this rule that 90% of my earnings will go to my college fund, leaving me about $.60/hour, which will never get me a car. Plus Im extremelly busy with athletics. Can you guys please help give me an argument to pose to my parents?

I could help take (insert sister's names here) to practice, and getting a car could help me become more independent.

Or, get a job like the rest of the world.

 

Tell them it will reduce the work load on themselves and teach you responsibility. You'll need a job to pay for gas to, so encourage that idea. Say you'll become more responsible by running your siblings around and you'll be able to drive yourself to practice/etc.

Just encourage them any kind of car, though. Don't try to get to much.

 

Show them you're responsible first.

 

Tell them you "need" it to take your little siblings to their practices, you can go get groceries for them, teach you responsibility, etc

What's the most responsible thing you've done for them?

 

I'm getting my parents car. Just live with it.

 

Me and my dad completely remodeled the whole basement. I've never been caught drinking, and never smoked in my life. Drug free. I watch my sisters constantly and go to as many sports events of theirs as I can.

But my parents both work and my dad is getting his doctorate, so I can't use theirs or get theirs because they're constantly in use.

 

If you can't argue a reason that you deserve to get a car, you shouldn't be driving or having your own car. Just wait, who cares if all your friends are getting cars, don't try to 'fit in'. This is my opinion.

 

Cars are actually extremely useful though.

If your grades are good, try to point out that you can get a 'good student discount' on insurance if you have a 3.0+ GPA on a report card. Tell them it might drop so they might as well save money while they can. Lower insurance rates might help persuade them.

 

Start working, once your 18 take all that cash that they made you put in your college fund out and buy something nice
